Retroid Hikes Pocket 6 Pricing and Axes the 12GB RAM Model

Retroid is the latest handheld gaming manufacturer to adjust pricing as rising RAM and storage costs continue to ripple across the tech industry. Following similar moves by other brands in the retro handheld space, Retroid has confirmed a price increase for the Retroid Pocket 6—along with an important change to its product lineup.

According to the company, ongoing shortages and higher supplier pricing for memory components have made it more expensive to produce certain configurations. Rather than quietly changing prices, Retroid announced the update publicly and explained that increasing component costs are no longer something it can absorb without affecting retail pricing.

Starting Monday, March 2, the Retroid Pocket 6 base model will increase by $15. The entry configuration, which includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, previously sold for $229 and will now be priced at $244. For shoppers who have been considering the Pocket 6 as a value-focused Android gaming handheld, this change makes timing important—especially as pricing across the category appears to be trending upward.

More notably, Retroid is discontinuing the higher-memory version of the Pocket 6 instead of raising its price. The 12GB RAM model, which also includes 256GB of storage and carried a $279 price tag, will no longer be offered. Retroid says it cannot continue selling that configuration at a reasonable price given the new costs from its suppliers.

At the time of the announcement, the 12GB/256GB Pocket 6 was already listed as out of stock, meaning new orders can’t be placed before it is officially phased out. Retroid did, however, confirm that any existing orders for the 12GB model that have not shipped yet will still be fulfilled at the original price.

Interestingly, Retroid’s other systems are not affected for now. The company’s Pocket G2 and the older Pocket 5 are currently staying at their existing pricing. Still, with memory pricing pressures escalating, many fans of retro gaming handhelds are watching closely, since it may only be a matter of time before more models across the market see similar adjustments.

For buyers deciding between the available Pocket 6 configurations, the short takeaway is clear: the 8GB/128GB model is about to cost more, and the 12GB/256GB model is being discontinued entirely—making availability and timing the biggest factors for anyone shopping for a Retroid handheld right now.
