Report: Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold Is Reportedly Being Phased Out in Korea, With the U.S. Next

Samsung made waves late last year when it introduced the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea, followed by a U.S. release in January. Marketed as the company’s first tri-fold-style phone (even though it folds twice), the ultra-premium device was never positioned as a mainstream bestseller. Now, a new report from South Korea suggests its brief run may be coming to an end sooner than many expected.

According to the report, Samsung is expected to stop selling the Galaxy Z TriFold in South Korea on March 17. People familiar with the matter reportedly point to high production costs as the key reason behind the short sales window, along with ongoing uncertainty around RAM and storage component pricing. With costs trending upward, continuing to sell such a complex folding device may not have made financial sense—especially for a product that was already designed to be limited in scope.

That possibility also lines up with Samsung’s original messaging. From day one, the company indicated the Galaxy Z TriFold would be produced in limited quantities, and it was framed more as a showcase of design and engineering than a mass-market phone meant for wide availability.

In the United States, what happens next is less clear. The report claims the current production batch could be the final one, but sales may continue until that inventory is gone. The Galaxy Z TriFold launched in the U.S. in late January, meaning it’s been available for less than two months. With a price tag around $2,899 and limited supply, it’s a very niche device aimed at early adopters and foldable enthusiasts rather than typical smartphone buyers. The phone has also appeared as sold out on Samsung’s online store, which has been the only official place to purchase it.

There’s also added chatter around durability. Some buyers have reported display damage, and there have been claims that refunds were offered in certain cases rather than replacements—an important detail for anyone considering a first-generation, ultra-premium foldable design.

For now, it’s worth emphasizing that Samsung has not officially confirmed an end date for Galaxy Z TriFold sales in either South Korea or the U.S. Until the company comments directly, it’s best to treat this as a report rather than a finalized decision. Still, if you’ve been eyeing Samsung’s most ambitious foldable yet, availability may remain tight—and potentially temporary—depending on how remaining stock plays out.
