RedMagic is making a major change to the future of its OLED gaming tablet, and it could affect anyone who’s been eyeing the RedMagic Astra. According to RedMagic Japan, shoppers who still want the Astra should consider buying one while remaining stock is available, because the company is preparing to stop producing the device.
In a follow-up update, RedMagic Japan explained why: Astra sales reportedly surpassed the company’s internal forecasts, with demand outpacing supply even after RedMagic pushed production capacity as far as it could. In other words, the tablet performed better than expected—and sold faster than RedMagic could replenish it.
The situation has also been complicated by ongoing memory supply constraints. Those limitations have further reduced RedMagic’s ability to keep up with orders, making it harder to maintain steady availability for the gaming tablet.
With sales momentum running high but supply challenges continuing, RedMagic says it will cease further production of the Astra and shift its attention to next-generation hardware instead. That points to a strategy change: rather than fighting shortages to keep the current model on shelves, the company appears to be prioritizing upcoming devices.
One important detail remains unclear, however. RedMagic has not confirmed whether the decision applies globally or only to Japan. For now, the company’s messaging focuses on the Japanese market, leaving open the possibility that other regions may still receive stock—or could be impacted later depending on components and production planning.
For buyers, the takeaway is simple: if the RedMagic Astra OLED gaming tablet is the model you want, availability may tighten quickly, at least in Japan, and potentially elsewhere if the same supply and demand pressures carry over.
