Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble Opens Global Pre-Registration for iOS and Android
Sony Interactive Entertainment is bringing one of PlayStation’s most recognizable franchises deeper into mobile gaming with Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble. The upcoming free-to-play multiplayer arena shooter is now open for global pre-registration on iOS and Android, marking a major step toward its worldwide release.
Developed by Oh BiBi in collaboration with Insomniac Games and PlayStation Studios, Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble was previously available only in select testing regions, including Canada, France, the Nordics, and parts of Asia. With pre-registration now expanding globally, the game appears to be moving into the final stretch of development.
Sony has not announced an official release date yet, but current signs point to a possible October 2026 launch window. Until confirmed, that timing should be treated as an expectation rather than a guaranteed date.
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble takes a very different direction from the traditional single-player platforming adventures the series is known for. Instead of a story-driven console experience, this mobile entry focuses on fast-paced third-person multiplayer combat built around twin-stick shooting, arena movement, and character-based action.
The game’s premise keeps things tied to the franchise’s humor and sci-fi world. The multiplayer battles are presented as a holographic combat simulation created by Captain Qwark, who is searching for the next generation of Galactic Rangers. It is a fitting setup for the chaotic, colorful battles that define the game’s mobile-friendly design.
Although Ranger Rumble shifts into online multiplayer territory, the developers are keeping several core Ratchet & Clank elements intact. Players can expect movement mechanics inspired by the console games, including rail-grinding, wall-running, double-jumping, and fast arena traversal. These mechanics are designed to make matches feel more dynamic than a standard mobile shooter.
At launch, Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble is expected to feature 12 playable characters. The roster includes familiar faces from the franchise alongside new characters created with input from Insomniac Games. Two of the new additions include Widget, a Lombax investigative journalist, and Celeste, a daring fighter from Rivet’s dimension.
The game will launch with six modes covering several multiplayer styles, including PvP, co-op PvE, battle royale-inspired action, and sports-style competition. Three modes have been revealed so far.
Bolt Rush is a six-player PvPvE mode where players collect bolts while battling enemy mobs, bosses, and rival players.
Total Rumble is an eight-player free-for-all elimination mode where the last Ranger standing wins, or the player with the highest number of eliminations comes out on top.
Blast Ball is a 3v3 competitive mode where teams use weapons to launch a charged ball into the opposing goal, adding a sports-inspired twist to the arena shooter format.
The remaining three launch modes have not yet been revealed, leaving more details to come as Sony moves closer to the game’s full release.
As a free-to-play mobile game, Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble will include a progression and currency system. Players will use Qredits for basic upgrades, character-specific weapon blueprints to unlock and improve the game’s arsenal, and Raritanium as a premium currency.
The weapon lineup is expected to include more than 20 tools of destruction, with returning favorites such as the Buzz Blades and the Glove of Doom. For longtime fans, the return of classic gadgets and weapons may be one of the biggest draws, especially if the game can capture the playful chaos that made the series popular.
Sony is also using pre-registration rewards to encourage early sign-ups. These rewards are tied to milestone goals and include resource bundles along with an exclusive Clank Suit cosmetic skin for Widget. The more players pre-register before launch, the more rewards may become available when the game goes live.
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble represents Sony’s growing interest in bringing major PlayStation franchises to mobile platforms.
