Rad Power Bikes is pushing forward despite ongoing uncertainty around the company, unveiling its newest electric cargo bike: the fifth-generation RadWagon 5. Built for hauling kids, groceries, gear, and more, this latest model aims to be tougher, smarter, and more comfortable than before—while keeping the practical cargo-bike spirit that made the RadWagon line popular.
The RadWagon 5 is built around an aluminum frame designed to handle serious weight. Rad Power Bikes says the bike supports a maximum payload of up to 375 lbs (170 kg), making it a strong option for riders who want to replace car trips with a capable electric cargo bike for daily errands and commuting.
One of the biggest upgrades this time is braking and ride comfort. The RadWagon 5 now comes with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, a welcome improvement for a bike that may regularly carry heavy loads. For smoother performance on imperfect roads, it also adds an RST Guide suspension fork with 45 mm of travel, designed to take the edge off potholes and bumpy terrain.
Power comes from a 750 W rear-mounted motor delivering up to 90 Nm of torque, giving the RadWagon 5 the muscle needed for cargo duty—especially when accelerating with a load or tackling inclines. Rad says the e-bike can reach speeds of up to 28 mph (45 km/h), putting it in the faster end of the electric cargo bike category depending on local regulations and settings.
For battery capacity and range, the RadWagon 5 uses a 720 Wh Samsung battery. The company estimates up to 60 miles (96.5 km) of range on a single charge, though real-world distance will vary based on rider weight, cargo weight, terrain, speed, temperature, and assist level. The UL-certified battery also includes “safe-shield” technology intended to help prevent overheating-related incidents—an increasingly important feature for buyers focused on e-bike battery safety.
The RadWagon 5 keeps things practical with a 7-speed drivetrain and an LCD display that provides the key ride data most riders want at a glance. That includes speed, battery level, distance traveled, trip time, pedal assist setting, and estimated remaining range.
Smart and safety-focused features round out the package. The bike includes a front 450-lumen headlight with an auto-on function, plus turn signals for improved visibility in traffic. There’s also passcode protection for added security and a USB-C port for charging devices on the go—useful for phone navigation or keeping accessories powered during longer rides.
The RadWagon 5 comes in metallic blue or black and is priced at $2,399. Buyers can purchase it directly from Rad Power Bikes.
