Qualcomm officially announces the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8s Gen 4: Boosted Performance by 49% with Classic Tech & Enhanced Flagship Features

The Snapdragon 8 Elite may be Qualcomm’s crown jewel in the realm of flagship chipsets, yet the company is now offering another enticing option for smartphone enthusiasts. Enter the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a chipset designed to deliver stellar performance and advanced features without straining your wallet. While it doesn’t employ the cutting-edge in-house Oryon cores, staying with the renowned Kryo CPU architecture, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 boasts substantial performance enhancements—up to a 49% boost compared to its predecessor.

What’s notable about the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is its strategic compromises and advancements. Although it forgoes the mmWave 5G capability, it excels with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UFS 4.0, and LPDDR5X technology. The chipset utilizes a 4nm lithography process, presumably TSMC’s N4P node, which is less efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Nevertheless, the impressive CPU configuration is undeniable. It features a ‘1+3+2+2’ setup, with the fastest core clocking in at 3.20GHz and the performance cores at 3.00GHz.

Qualcomm’s claims of up to a 49% enhancement in graphics performance over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 should excite gaming and multimedia aficionados. On the processing front, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 exhibits a 31% speed increase and a 39% boost in power efficiency, paired with a robust 5G modem capable of achieving a peak downlink speed of 4.2Gbps (minus the mmWave bands).

Further augmenting its appeal, the chipset offers on-device AI prowess with up to 44% improvement due to an enhanced NPU. Camera enthusiasts will rejoice in the ability to support sensors up to 320MP, alongside stunning 8K HDR video playback and 4K HDR video capture, both at 60FPS.

Industry insiders anticipate this chipset to grace premium smartphones from various Chinese manufacturers, and there’s much excitement about its upcoming real-world performance assessments. Keep an eye out as this new technology begins to unfold across devices, bringing high-end capabilities at a more accessible price point.
