Talk of a Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced upgrade won’t go away, and that’s largely thanks to prominent leaker NateTheHate2, who has repeatedly said an updated version is in development. When the rumors first heated up in 2025, many fans assumed the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S improvements would land before the end of that year. Now, a new claim suggests players may be waiting much longer—possibly because the publisher’s biggest release is taking priority.
Insider Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly says the project is real and hasn’t been canceled. In an attempt to calm growing skepticism online, he stated he was aware of eight developers who have worked on the Enhanced version. The complication, according to him, isn’t whether it exists, but when it makes sense for the publisher to release it—especially with a major blockbuster on the horizon.
Reilly also floated a theory that a shifting schedule for the next Grand Theft Auto entry could be influencing everything. He believes the company may want to devote much of 2026 to building hype for its next Vice City-set crime saga, and that releasing a major Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade during that period could distract from the marketing push. On top of that, a free upgrade for an earlier entry in the series is still relatively recent, having arrived in early December 2025—meaning another big Red Dead-related release might feel too close from a planning perspective.
The idea of Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced has fans so invested for a reason. Despite the game’s reputation as one of the most visually impressive open-world experiences ever made, current console play still feels held back. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the game largely relies on backward compatibility rather than a fully tailored current-gen version. That typically means a 30fps cap, with players also pointing to blurry textures in places and controls that can feel less responsive than modern releases.
There’s also the Nintendo question. Red Dead Redemption 2 still isn’t available on Switch, and it hasn’t been confirmed for Switch 2 either. For a game of this scale and popularity, that absence remains a big talking point—especially as more major third-party titles find their way onto new hardware.
Unsurprisingly, the latest timing chatter has frustrated many console players. Some reactions highlight how long it feels to wait for a current-gen update to a game that’s already nearing a decade old. Others point out that the community has found workarounds, including an unofficial mod that reportedly boosts the presentation to 1440p at 60fps on PS5—fueling the argument that an official update should be achievable.
Still, an official Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced release would likely go far beyond what fan-led tweaks can offer. If it arrives, players are expecting meaningful upgrades: sharper textures, improved draw distance, smoother performance, refined controls, and potentially broader platform support. The biggest wildcard is simply scheduling—because if the publisher is focused on avoiding any disruption to its next flagship release, Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced may be asked to wait its turn.
