Red Dead Redemption is finally riding onto current-generation hardware, and it’s bringing Undead Nightmare along for the journey. Following a fresh rating hint, Rockstar has confirmed the classic Western will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, 2025. In a surprise twist, the game is also headed to iOS and Android, with access included for Netflix subscribers through the Netflix app.
If you already own Red Dead Redemption on PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch, there’s more good news: this is a free upgrade. Existing owners won’t need to buy the game again to enjoy the native current-gen version.
Rockstar says PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players can expect 4K resolution, 60 FPS, HDR support, and enhanced image quality. On Nintendo’s next system, the Switch 2 version will support DLSS, HDR, and the Joy-Con 2’s mouse-style controls, while also targeting 60 FPS.
There are subscription perks, too. PlayStation Plus Extra members will be able to download and play Red Dead Redemption with its new update on day one, December 2, 2025. Players with a GTA+ membership will also gain access through that subscription. On mobile, you’ll be able to pick it up through the App Store or Google Play, or play it at no extra cost if you’re a Netflix subscriber.
It’s a welcome return for one of gaming’s most celebrated open-world adventures, now updated for modern displays and smooth performance. That said, the absence of a native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version of Red Dead Redemption 2 remains a lingering question. With Grand Theft Auto VI on the horizon and ongoing labor-related controversies keeping the studio in headlines, fans are hoping RDR2’s next-gen upgrade is next on the list.
