As the automotive industry continues to revolutionize with electric mobility, Porsche is not left behind with the introduction of its first all-electric SUV, the new Macan. Offering an impeccable blend of E-Performance, this electric SUV adapts Porsche’s signature sportiness to the demands of electric vehicle technology.
The latest Macan marks a significant evolution, a decade after the original model’s introduction. It boasts a high-performance fast-charging capability of up to 270 kW and a robust range of up to 613 km on the WLTP cycle. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, announced during the global premiere in Singapore the brand’s ambition to redefine the Macan with state-of-the-art E-Performance and a distinctive design philosophy.
With the objective to produce the most dynamic model in its segment, Porsche equips the Macan with high-performance electric motors on both front and rear axles to assure top-tier efficiency and consistent power output. The Macan 4 features up to 300 kW of overboost power, whilst the Macan Turbo offers a mighty 470 kW, enabling a swift 0-100 km/h acceleration within 3.3 seconds.
This new generation of the Macan is built upon the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) with an 800-volt architecture, featuring a lithium-ion battery with up to 95 kWh usable capacity, allowing for a rapid recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just approximately 21 minutes at high-power charging stations. This allows it to achieve an impressive WLTP range of up to 613 km for the Macan 4 and 591 km for the Macan Turbo.
The striking design of the Macan plays a major role in its character. Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche, emphasizes the brand’s intention to maintain Porsche’s vehicle identity while adapting to electric vehicle architecture, resulting in a sporty, contemporary aesthetic that stands out within its category. The electric Macan features a flat hood, pronounced wings, up to 22-inch wheels, a distinctive Porsche flyline, and a signature rear light bar, contributing to its dynamic and robust SUV stature.
Moreover, the Macan’s aerodynamic design, which incorporates both active and passive elements such as the Porsche Active Aerodynamics system, yields a drag coefficient of 0.25. This not only confirms the Macan’s efficient dynamism but also optimizes power consumption and extends its range.
In terms of practicality, the electric Macan offers a commodious interior, heightened by the spacious luggage compartments in the rear and under the bonnet, totaling a maximum capacity of up to 1,348 litres when rear seats are folded. The vehicle also accommodates towing capabilities of up to 2,000 kg, affirming its versatile SUV properties.
Inside, the Macan features a distinctive Porsche interior design, where the cockpit’s width is accentuated alongside elevated digital interfaces paired with familiar analogue controls. Immersive ambient lighting complements the sophisticated interior styling, making the electric Macan a testament to Porsche’s blend of tradition with innovation.
In pursuing electric mobility, Porsche’s all-electric Macan reflects a shift towards a more sustainable, yet equally thrilling and luxurious driving experience. This electric SUV sets a new standard for elegance, performance, and versatility in an increasingly electric automotive landscape. The latest iteration of the Porsche Macan embraces cutting-edge technology and customization, ensuring a highly personalized driving experience. The vehicle features an advanced display and operating concept with up to three screens. This includes a prominent 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster and a central 10.9-inch display. A unique offering for passengers is the optional 10.9-inch screen, allowing them to access infotainment options or watch videos while in motion.
Adding to the immersive experience is the introduction of a head-up display incorporating augmented reality elements. This system projects navigation cues into the driver’s field of vision, creating an image equivalent to an 87-inch display seen at a distance of 10 meters.
At the heart of the Macan’s connectivity and functionality is the new-generation infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS. The Porsche Communication Management system has been significantly upgraded in terms of computing performance, with features like the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant that quickly suggests routes and charging stops. The Porsche App Centre integrates popular apps from third-party providers directly into the Macan’s ecosystem.
The updated Macan also sees advancements in its drivetrain and chassis, with Porsche putting a strong emphasis on the vehicle’s dynamic performance and precise steering. Both the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo come with all-wheel drive, with two electric motors that are controlled virtually instantaneously. The advanced Porsche Traction Management system and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus enhance the traction and lateral dynamics, especially in the Macan Turbo.
Porsche’s commitment to a broad spectrum of driving experiences is evident in the air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management, now featuring two-valve dampers that enhance the range between comfort and performance settings.
A first for the Macan is the optional rear-axle steering, which significantly improves maneuverability and high-speed stability, staying true to Porsche’s legacy of precision.
Since its introduction in 2014, the Macan has been a success with over 800,000 units delivered globally. As Porsche moves towards more sustainable production, this all-electric model maintains the brand’s performance ethos while being manufactured in a net carbon neutral facility at the Porsche Plant Leipzig. Customers can expect the new Macan models to be available during the latter half of the year.
