Exciting new details about the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 Pro have surfaced online, creating quite a buzz among gaming enthusiasts. According to a fresh leak, the PlayStation 5 Pro’s GPU is expected to deliver performance comparable to the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT when it comes to rasterization, while offering a slight edge in raytracing capabilities.
Earlier in the year, leaked specifications of the PlayStation 5 Pro hinted at a significant boost in GPU power, featuring a shift to AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture. This upgrade not only enhances the Work Group Processors (WGP) but also integrates some raytracing capabilities from the forthcoming RDNA 4 GPUs. In terms of performance, the PlayStation 5 Pro is anticipated to measure up to a mid-range RDNA 3 GPU.
The well-known leaker @Kepler_L2 has provided insights suggesting that the PlayStation 5 Pro’s GPU will match the AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT in rasterization performance. Additionally, its raytracing prowess is expected to be superior due to the advanced features mentioned earlier. According to reviews, the Radeon RX 7700 XT is capable of running most games at 4K 60 FPS, although there are exceptions. However, comparing a PC GPU directly with a console isn’t entirely fair, given the inherent differences between the platforms.
A potential concern for the PlayStation 5 Pro could be its Zen 2 CPU, which has only seen marginal improvements compared to the original PlayStation 5. To compensate for this, Sony’s proprietary upscaling technology, PlayStation Super Resolution (PSSR), will play a crucial role in achieving 4K 120 FPS in games and securing the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced label.
Gamers and tech enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating more concrete information, which is expected to be revealed on September 9th during a rumored unveiling by Sony. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting update to the PlayStation lineup.
