The recently unveiled Pico 4 Ultra is making a grand entrance into the VR world, now available across Europe and several other regions. Boasting an impressive array of features, this latest headset from Pico aims to rival the Meta Quest 3 while promising an enhanced VR experience. However, its significant price hike over the earlier Pico 4 may give potential buyers some pause.
The Pico 4 Ultra builds on the foundation laid by the Pico 4, which was a strong contender against the Meta Quest 2. Now, Pico sets its sights on the Meta Quest 3 with this new model, which comes equipped with cutting-edge technology. Users can expect seamless performance thanks to its Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 processor, alongside 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a substantial 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For connectivity, the headset supports Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7, ensuring a fast and stable connection.
In terms of display, the Pico 4 Ultra features dual 2.56-inch LCD screens, each offering a resolution of 2,160 x 2,160 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate, inherited from the Pico 4. The device also maintains the 105° field of view provided by its pancake lenses. Despite these familiar aspects, the Pico 4 Ultra comes with a hefty price tag of €599, marking a substantial 54% increase over its predecessor.
The Pico 4 Ultra is now available in 20 countries, including key markets like China, Germany, the UK, and Japan. Unfortunately, it will not see a release in regions such as Africa, the Middle East, or the Americas. As a launch incentive, Pico is bundling several popular VR titles—Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, Infinite Inside, Let’s Get Fit VR, and FootPool—with purchases made between September 6 and September 19, valuing the package at around €50.
While this bonus adds some value, it does little to offset the significant price jump. Potential buyers will need to weigh the updated specs and improved features against the increased cost when deciding if the Pico 4 Ultra is the right choice for their VR needs. Nevertheless, for dedicated VR enthusiasts looking for a top-of-the-line experience, the Pico 4 Ultra offers plenty of promise.
