Google Maps Introduces Feature to Direct Users to Correct Building Entrances

For years, Google Maps has been improving its navigation capabilities with a host of advanced features. Despite these enhancements, one functionality was noticeably absent from the platform—the ability to direct users to the precise entrance of a location or building. Until now, users have been left to locate the entrances themselves after being guided to the vicinity of their destination, a situation that is about to change.

A recent discovery detailed by Android Police indicates that in the latest Google Maps app update for Android, version 11.17.0101, entrance indications have been spotted. In some locations within Germany and the United States, the app now showcases entrance icons, which appear as an entry symbol inside a white circle. By tapping on these icons, Google Maps turns the symbol red, enhancing visibility and differentiating it from other nearby points of interest. Nonetheless, early reports suggest that the feature may not be entirely accurate yet, as some entrances have been marked in incorrect locations.

The feature appears to be in a trial phase, available only to a limited number of users at present, suggesting Google is still finalizing the functionality before a widespread release. While there is no confirmed timeline for when the feature will become broadly accessible, it is anticipated that Google will execute a gradual release over the forthcoming months. However, mapping entrances for all locations on Google Maps is expected to take a significant amount of time.

With this update, Google Maps aims to enhance the navigation experience by reducing the confusion and inconvenience caused by arriving at the wrong side of a destination. Users can look forward to saying goodbye to awkwardly circumnavigating buildings to find the main entrance.
