Permafrost Revealed in Full Before Its October Debut

Permafrost Early Access Launches October 9, 2026, Bringing Frozen Survival to PC

Permafrost, the upcoming story-driven survival sandbox from developer SpaceRocket Games and publisher Toplitz Productions, is set to launch in PC Early Access on October 9, 2026. The game will be available through major PC storefronts, including Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

The frozen survival adventure was previously scheduled to arrive on August 21, but the development team delayed the release to October to allow more time for polish and improvements. With its bleak post-apocalyptic setting, cooperative gameplay, base-building systems, and harsh environmental challenges, Permafrost is shaping up to be a promising new entry for fans of survival games.

Before the Early Access launch, players will have a chance to test the game during a limited playtest. The Permafrost playtest begins on October 2 at 14:00 CEST and ends on October 6 at 14:00 CEST. Interested players can request access through the game’s Steam page.

Each playtest session will last one hour from the moment the game is launched. Testers will also receive three invites, allowing them to bring friends into the frozen wasteland. According to the developers, this early test is designed to give players a hands-on look at the game’s tools, survival systems, and equipment ahead of the official Early Access release.

Permafrost takes place in a frozen, post-apocalyptic world where survival depends on smart planning, scavenging, crafting, and adapting to brutal conditions. Players can explore the icy wilderness alone or team up in online co-op with up to four players.

The core gameplay focuses on gathering resources, crafting essential gear, constructing shelters, and building a network of safe locations to survive the relentless cold. Exploration plays a major role, as players must search abandoned areas, manage supplies, and prepare for the dangers waiting beyond each shelter.

One of the game’s standout features is a rescued dog companion. More than just a friendly presence, the dog acts as an early warning system while players travel through the wilderness. With its sharp sense of smell, the companion can help detect nearby threats and improve the chances of survival in dangerous territory.

SpaceRocket Games plans to keep Permafrost in Early Access for at least 12 months. During that period, the studio intends to expand the game with new biomes, additional quests, fresh gameplay mechanics, quality-of-life upgrades, and technical optimization.

The developer has also stated that the game’s price will very likely increase before the full 1.0 release. The lower Early Access price is intended as a thank-you to players who support the project during its development phase.

With its mix of survival sandbox gameplay, cooperative exploration, crafting, base building, and a harsh frozen world, Permafrost could appeal to players looking for a tense and atmospheric PC survival game. The October playtest will offer an early glimpse at what awaits before the full Early Access release arrives on October 9, 2026.
