The goal, according to reports, is to support Chinese social media platform RedNote (also known as Xiaohongshu) by enabling it to run advanced AI workloads through a data center located in Tokyo, Japan.
The move highlights a growing trend in the AI industry: when direct access to cutting-edge GPU infrastructure is complicated by geography, supply constraints, or regulatory hurdles, companies increasingly turn to overseas data centers and alternative financing to keep AI development moving forward. Nvidia’s top-tier AI accelerators are widely viewed as essential for training and operating large-scale models, powering recommendation engines, content understanding, search, and generative AI features that today’s social apps rely on to stay competitive.
