The electric mountain bike market witnesses the arrival of the Optibike RIOT, setting new standards with its impressive power and extended range capabilities. The RIOT eMTB, designed to conquer challenging terrains, boasts a 750W motor in its US version, delivering up to 190 Nm of torque, perfect for handling steep climbs with ease. Riders can look forward to reaching speeds of up to 20 mph (~32 kph) in compliance with Class 1 e-bike regulations.
The EU model of the RIOT is equipped with a 250W motor, respecting local regulatory limits with speeds up to 16 mph (~25 kph). Both the US and EU versions benefit from an advanced dual-sided pedelec torque sensor, providing a responsive and natural assist to riders, enhancing the overall experience on diverse trails.
The heart of the RIOT’s long-range capabilities lies in its powerful 1,620Wh lithium-ion battery, allowing for an unmatched estimated range of up to 180 miles (~290 km) on a single charge. This endurance makes it a standout choice for extended off-road adventures or long-haul rides across various landscapes.
Further bolstering its performance are the cutting-edge suspension components—a RockShox ZEB Ultimate Suspension Fork and a Fox 230×65 Float X Air Shock—each offering 170mm of travel. These high-quality parts ensure a smooth and controlled ride on even the roughest trails.
Customization options are aplenty. Riders can personalize their eMTB with choices like a precision-engineered 14-speed Rohloff geared hub or a conventional cassette and derailleur setup. Safety and convenience features are not overlooked, with large disc brakes for superior stopping power, an easy-to-read handlebar-mounted LCD display, and an optional high-intensity 2,700-lumen headlight for nighttime riding.
Despite the inclusion of these robust components, the RIOT maintains a relatively light stature owing to its carbon fiber frame and swingarm, with the entire bike weighing in at approximately 68 lbs (~31 kg).
Currently available for pre-order, the Optibike RIOT Class 1 and RIOT EU eMTBs start at a price point of $14,400 (~€13,200). The release date for shipping has not been specified, and customers are advised that availability may be limited. This new entrant in the eMTB arena combines the essence of high-performance with extended range, setting a new benchmark for electric mountain bikes.
