OnePlus has been the subject of rumors suggesting it was building a dedicated gaming handheld. Early chatter even included a questionable “leak” hinting at a brand-new device. Now the full picture is clear: OnePlus isn’t launching a standalone handheld at all. Instead, it’s turning its latest flagship phone into a handheld-style gaming setup using a purpose-built controller accessory made for the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra.
The newly revealed controller is designed to clip onto the Ace 6 Ultra and instantly give the phone a more console-like feel, with a strong focus on competitive shooting games. OnePlus has shown the controller in action through official videos, repeatedly highlighting comfort and grip—two areas where touch-only mobile shooters often fall short, especially during long matches.
OnePlus says the goal is to make mobile FPS gameplay feel more natural and more competitive. To do that, the controller adds four physical buttons and promotes a hybrid play style that combines on-screen touch controls with hardware inputs. With the accessory attached, players can use more fingers more effectively, making advanced shooter actions easier to pull off at the same time. In the demos, OnePlus emphasizes how this setup can help with common high-skill FPS moves like peeking, aiming, firing, and managing recoil simultaneously—tasks that can feel awkward or limiting on pure touchscreen controls.
On the specs side, OnePlus is positioning this accessory as performance-focused rather than just a casual add-on. It uses micro-switch buttons instead of typical membrane switches, aiming for a more tactile click and faster actuation. OnePlus also lists a 1,000 Hz polling rate for responsive input and claims a response time of around 1.8 ms, both of which are meant to appeal to fast-paced competitive players who care about latency.
The controller’s design also includes features intended to support longer gaming sessions. There’s a dedicated space in the center to attach a phone cooler, aimed at helping manage heat during demanding games. OnePlus also mentions a “built-in gaming antenna” meant to improve wireless signal performance. For convenience, the bottom of the controller includes a USB-C port so you can charge the Ace 6 Ultra while playing, with cable routing designed to stay out of the way.
While the accessory is clearly built with the Ace 6 Ultra in mind, it may not be limited to just that phone. OnePlus notes a telescopic mechanism, suggesting broader compatibility with other smartphones—though exact supported models haven’t been fully detailed yet.
The gaming controller is set to launch alongside the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra in China, with a debut date of April 28, 2026. For now, OnePlus hasn’t confirmed whether the Ace 6 Ultra—or the controller accessory—will get a global release, leaving international availability as an open question.
