OnePlus 16 Leak Hints at a Massive Camera Leap with a 200MP Sensor

OnePlus only just rolled out its latest flagship, the OnePlus 15, worldwide in November 2025, but the rumor mill is already turning toward what could be next. A fresh leak shared by well-known tipster Digital Chat Station suggests the upcoming OnePlus 16 may bring a major camera leap: a 200MP sensor.

The leak doesn’t specify where that ultra-high-resolution sensor would be used, leaving two big possibilities on the table. It could become the main camera for sharper detail and more flexibility when cropping, or it could land in the telephoto camera to improve zoom photography. Either way, it would be a notable first for OnePlus, as the brand hasn’t used a 200MP camera sensor in any of its phones so far.

To put this into perspective, the current OnePlus 15 sticks with a 50MP triple rear camera setup. So if OnePlus does move to a 200MP primary camera on the OnePlus 16, it would instantly become one of the phone’s headline upgrades and a clear shift in strategy toward camera performance.

That’s especially interesting because the OnePlus 15 emphasized power and display smoothness more than camera hardware. It arrived with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a large 7,300mAh battery, and a 165Hz screen—specs designed for speed, gaming, and long endurance. At the same time, some camera-related trade-offs were noted compared to the previous generation, including smaller sensor sizes for the primary and telephoto cameras versus the OnePlus 13. OnePlus also moved away from Hasselblad tuning, replacing it with its own in-house DetailMax Engine.

The same tipster also hints that the OnePlus 16 camera setup could mirror what’s expected in Oppo’s next-generation foldable phone, suggesting potential shared hardware choices between the brands. Still, as with any early leak, details can change—especially this far out from an official announcement.

For now, the OnePlus 16 remains unconfirmed, but the possibility of a 200MP camera is already enough to put the next OnePlus flagship in the spotlight for mobile photography fans.
