The next wave of Android flagship phones may arrive sooner than usual. Fresh leaks suggest that the OnePlus 16 and iQoo 16 could launch in China as early as September 2026, giving performance-focused smartphone fans something to watch closely.
This would mark a noticeable shift from the previous release schedule. The OnePlus 15 launched in China on October 27, 2025, while the iQoo 15 arrived slightly earlier on October 20, 2025. Both devices stood out as some of the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, positioning them as high-end options for gaming, multitasking, and demanding mobile users.
According to well-known Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 and iQoo 16 are currently expected to debut in September 2026. The same source previously claimed that several major Chinese smartphone brands may also move their next flagship launches to September, roughly one month ahead of the typical schedule.
For now, this rumored timeline appears to apply only to the Chinese market. There is still no confirmed information about international release dates. If the previous generation is any indication, global buyers may have to wait a little longer. The OnePlus 15 and iQoo 15 reached global markets in November 2025 after their China launches.
One of the biggest expected upgrades for both phones is the chipset. The OnePlus 16 and iQoo 16 are rumored to use Qualcomm’s next premium mobile processor, reportedly called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. Early leaks suggest the chip could be built on a 2nm manufacturing process, which may improve efficiency, performance, and thermal control compared to current flagship processors. It may also support LPDDR6 memory, potentially allowing faster app loading, smoother gaming, and better overall responsiveness.
