NVIDIA is taking steps to address the “black screen” issues reportedly affecting some GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. They are preparing a fresh driver update aimed at resolving this frustrating problem for users.
Team Green isn’t turning a blind eye to the challenges faced with their RTX Blackwell GPUs. Although an official fix hasn’t been announced yet by NVIDIA, there are promising signs. A Reddit user shared that they received a new BIOS update for their MSI Gaming Trio RTX 5090, which successfully eliminated the black screen issues and even boosted performance. This indicates that the AIB (Add-In-Board) partners are putting in work to tackle these bugs through firmware updates.
NVIDIA’s representative noted that while the VBIOS update is a critical step in solving the problem, it might not be the answer for everyone. The black screen dilemma with RTX 50 GPUs isn’t solely a BIOS issue; it could stem from the onboard driver or the PCIe connection. To this end, NVIDIA plans to release a new GPU driver later this week, intending to finally put these troubles to rest.
For those currently grappling with these black screen setbacks, it’s advisable to investigate the latest firmware updates provided by your GPU’s manufacturer. If updating doesn’t do the trick, patience is key as the new driver update could be your solution. Another tip is to consider downgrading to PCIe 4.0, a well-established standard that might alleviate some signaling concerns related to the issue.
