Nothing may not be ready to introduce a true successor to the Nothing Ear (Open) just yet, but a fresh update appears to be on the way. More than a year after the open-ear earbuds first arrived in 2024, the company has started teasing what looks like a new color option for the current model—giving fans something new to look forward to without changing the hardware.
The hint comes from a cryptic post on X shared by Nothing’s official account. The image features the Pokémon “Flaaffy” shown in blue, and it mirrors an older 2024 post that used the same character in pink. Long-time followers of the brand quickly connected the dots: Nothing often uses Pokémon as internal codenames for its products, and Flaaffy is tied to the Ear (Open). That’s why many are confident this tease points to a blue Nothing Ear (Open) variant joining the existing white version.
If you’ve been considering open-ear earbuds that don’t block your ear canal, the Nothing Ear (Open) is built around comfort and everyday awareness. The earbuds use an ear-hook design and can be adjusted to better match the shape of your ears, aiming for a secure fit that stays comfortable through longer listening sessions. Each earbud packs a 14.2mm dynamic driver and weighs 8.1 grams, keeping the design lightweight while still targeting full, punchy sound.
On the features side, the Nothing Ear (Open) checks a lot of key boxes people search for in wireless earbuds. You get Bluetooth 5.3 for stable connectivity, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for quicker setup, and Bluetooth multipoint so you can stay connected to two devices at the same time. The earbuds and charging case also carry an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance, which helps for workouts and daily outdoor use.
Codec support includes AAC and SBC, and you can tweak the sound using the EQ inside the Nothing X app. There’s also a low-lag mode for gaming, pinch controls for playback and calls, plus ChatGPT integration for users who want built-in AI assistance as part of the experience. Compatibility covers both Android and iOS, so you’re not locked into one ecosystem.
Battery life is another strong point. Nothing rates the Ear (Open) at up to 8 hours of playback on a single charge, with up to 30 hours total when you factor in the charging case. Fast charging is included as well, with a quick 10-minute top-up delivering up to 10 hours of use.
Nothing hasn’t confirmed exactly when the new color will be revealed, but the timing of the tease suggests it could be soon. For anyone who doesn’t want to wait, the white Nothing Ear (Open) is currently available and discounted to $99 on Amazon, which is 34% off its launch price.
