When a new gaming console makes its debut, high demand often leads to shortages, leaving eager fans disappointed. This was notably the case when the PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020. However, there’s promising news that suggests a different scenario for Nintendo’s new console. A report from January highlighted by Takashi Mochizuki indicated through display shipment data that Nintendo aims to sidestep such shortages. Nintendo’s ambitious plan involves producing 10 million units of its new console during the initial fiscal year.
Recent rumors add more fuel to the excitement surrounding the anticipated arrival of the Switch 2, expected in March 2025. A Famiboards user, Ninspider, who previously shared a detailed sketch of the upcoming console that was later verified by insiders, has now hinted at the console’s launch availability. According to Ninspider, the production figures for the U.S. market alone are estimated to be 2.5 times the volume that was available in March 2017 for the original Nintendo Switch launch.
To put this into perspective, the initial Switch shipped 2.74 million units in its first month. Multiply that by 2.5, and you’re looking at an impressive 7 million units expected to be available for the Switch 2 in the same timeframe. This marks a monumental launch, potentially large enough to squash the concerns about scalping that plagued other console releases, like the recently launched 30th Anniversary Edition of the PS5 Pro.
