As excitement builds around the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles, enthusiasts are buzzing with anticipation fueled by a stream of leaks and rumors. The upcoming PS6 and the next Xbox are expected to surpass their predecessors in power and performance. Notably, the PS6 is rumored to deliver up to ten times the ray tracing performance of the PS5, potentially even surpassing the capabilities of the RTX 5080.
Insights from the podcast Broken Silicon suggest that the PS6, leveraging RDNA 5 technology, could significantly boost performance beyond that of RDNA 4, which powers the PS5 Pro. This leap in technology is predicted to enhance the PS6’s ray tracing performance to potentially rival or exceed NVIDIA’s RTX 5080, and perhaps even approach the RTX 5090.
Speculation indicates that the PS6 could achieve similar performance to the Radeon RX 9070 XT in terms of traditional rendering, while its ray tracing capabilities go even further.
Beyond the PS6, leaks mention Sony developing a handheld device, codenamed Canis, featuring Zen 6c CPU cores and an advanced RDNA 5 iGPU. This handheld is expected to surpass the performance of the AMD Z1 Extreme-powered ROG Ally X.
While tantalizing, these details remain unconfirmed as official specifications from Sony and Microsoft about their next-gen consoles have yet to be released. Both companies have confirmed continued collaboration with AMD for their hardware solutions.
