New Gaming Era: Black Ops 7 Replaces Modern Warfare Classics on Call of Duty Launcher

Fans of the Call of Duty series have reason to celebrate as Activision has made a significant change to how players access Modern Warfare 2 and 3. These popular titles will no longer operate within the often-criticized Call of Duty HQ launcher. This move paves the way for the eagerly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which is expected to launch in November.

Many players have long been frustrated with Call of Duty HQ, as its additional storage demands and cumbersome navigation have detracted from the gaming experience. Previously, purchasing these games on platforms like Steam meant sharing assets between them, but Activision’s new approach allows players to install and run the games as standalone titles.

Starting July 29th, players can re-download Modern Warfare 2 and 3 to enjoy them without the launcher. However, players should note that if they don’t take action, content from these games will disappear by August 7th. Fortunately, weapons and operators from Call of Duty: Warzone will still be accessible.

The Call of Duty HQ, released in November 2023, has been unpopular among the Steam community, particularly because it mixes files from multiple games and adds unnecessary steps to access them. This update provides a much-needed reprieve, allowing for a more streamlined experience.

While this is good news, the HQ isn’t going away completely. Instead, the focus now shifts to Black Ops 7, with more details about this new shooter expected at Gamescom on August 19th. Fans are eager to see what Activision has in store for this next chapter in the Call of Duty saga.
