New Patch Sparks Rumors of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Coming to PS5 Soon

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 Ports May Be Launching Very Soon

Call of Duty fans may not have to wait much longer to revisit two of the franchise’s most beloved entries on modern PlayStation hardware. Treyarch confirmed on June 17 that Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are coming to PS5 in July, and fresh activity behind the scenes suggests the release could be closer than expected.

While Activision has not yet announced an exact launch date or official pricing, recent updates spotted on PlayStation’s backend have fueled speculation that both classic shooters may arrive within days. Multiple patches for Black Ops and Black Ops 2 reportedly appeared on July 2 and July 3, including update versions 1.02 and 1.03. For many PS4 and PS5 games, a version 1.03 patch often appears shortly before release, which has only increased excitement among longtime players.

The sudden appearance of several update files has also caught the attention of well-known Call of Duty insiders. CharlieIntel, a trusted source for franchise-related news, suggested that the release of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS5 “should be relatively soon.” However, with the U.S. holiday weekend underway, some fans believe Activision may choose to wait a little longer before making the games available.

There are already several theories about when the PS5 ports could go live. Some players think Activision may wait until the current Black Ops 7 free trial ends on July 6 before releasing the older titles. Others believe the company could hold the launch until after the COD League Championship Weekend wraps up on July 19. For now, fans are watching official channels closely for any sign of a final announcement.

One of the biggest unanswered questions is the price. Previous store activity suggested that each game could cost around $40. If that turns out to be accurate, players hoping to buy both Black Ops and Black Ops 2 may need to spend a significant amount, especially if downloadable content is not included in the package. Activision has not confirmed whether DLC maps or additional content will be bundled with the PS5 versions.

Treyarch has also made it clear that these releases are ports, not full remakes or remasters. That means players should not expect a major visual overhaul or extensive gameplay changes. Instead, the PS5 versions are expected to preserve the original experience, including campaign, multiplayer, and the fan-favorite Zombies mode.

Even without major upgrades, the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PS5 is a big moment for fans of the series. Both games are considered standout entries from the PS3 era, with memorable storylines, competitive multiplayer, and Zombies maps that helped define the franchise’s legacy.

For many players, the appeal is simple: being able to access these classic Call of Duty games on a modern console without needing older hardware. If the backend updates are any indication, the wait for the Black Ops and Black Ops 2 PS5 ports may finally be almost over.
