Call of Duty Reportedly Locked In for Its Nintendo Switch 2 Debut

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 may be the first CoD game for Nintendo Switch 2

Call of Duty could finally be making its long-awaited return to Nintendo hardware, and the first entry to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 may reportedly be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

According to recent insider claims, Modern Warfare 4 is expected to be the first Call of Duty title released for Nintendo’s next-generation console. While Microsoft and Activision have not officially announced the game or confirmed its platform list, multiple signs now point toward a Switch 2 version being in development.

The latest wave of speculation began after a well-known leaker shared blurred cover art for an unannounced Activision title. The image was difficult to make out, but it was posted alongside the Korean character “사,” which translates to “four.” That small clue was enough for many Call of Duty fans to connect the dots and assume the mystery game is Modern Warfare 4.

Soon after, another gaming insider backed up the claim that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is planned as the first CoD release for Nintendo Switch 2. While this still does not count as an official reveal, the timing has made the rumor much harder to ignore.

Reports from late last year also suggested that a Call of Duty game for Nintendo’s new console was already far along in development. At the time, it was said that the first Switch version was close to completion and could launch within months. That timeline was later adjusted, with 2026 being described as a more realistic release window.

One possible reason for the delay may be the rollout of Nintendo Switch 2 development kits. Nintendo has reportedly been careful about which studios received early access to the hardware, meaning Activision may not have had everything it needed to begin full development as early as expected.

Microsoft’s agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms is another major reason this rumor makes sense. As part of its Activision Blizzard acquisition, Microsoft committed to supporting Nintendo systems with future Call of Duty releases. Since the original Switch never received modern CoD entries, the Switch 2 is widely seen as the most likely place for that promise to begin.

There have also been smaller clues suggesting that Activision has been preparing for Nintendo hardware. A Sledgehammer Games job listing previously looked for a Senior Technical Artist with experience in AAA mobile games or Switch development. That wording sparked speculation that work on a Nintendo-compatible Call of Duty project was already underway.

For now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 remains unannounced. Activision has not revealed the game, and Microsoft has not confirmed whether it will launch on Nintendo Switch 2. Still, with cover art rumors, insider claims, job listing clues, and Microsoft’s public commitment to Nintendo all lining up, the possibility of Modern Warfare 4 debuting on Switch 2 feels increasingly believable.

If true, this would be a major moment for both Call of Duty and Nintendo fans. A full modern CoD release on Switch 2 could give Nintendo players access to the franchise’s campaign, multiplayer, and possibly Warzone-related features on portable hardware for the first time in years. It would also mark a major test of the Switch 2’s performance capabilities, especially if Activision aims to deliver a version close to the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC releases.

Until an official announcement arrives, fans should treat the information as a rumor. But if the reports are accurate, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 could become one of the biggest third-party games in the Nintendo Switch 2 launch era.
