Call of Duty: Warzone Is Ending PS4 and Xbox One Support in 2026
Activision is officially preparing to move Call of Duty: Warzone away from last-generation consoles. Later this year, the popular free-to-play battle royale will begin phasing out support for PS4 and Xbox One as the franchise shifts fully toward current-generation platforms with the arrival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The transition will happen in stages, giving existing players some time to prepare. Starting June 4, Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be available as a new download on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Players who already have Warzone installed on either console will still be able to access the game for a limited time, but Activision has warned that deleting it after this date means it cannot be reinstalled from the storefront.
The next major step comes on June 25, when the in-game store will be removed from the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Warzone. Once that happens, players on older consoles will no longer be able to purchase COD Points bundles or buy new in-game content through those versions of the game. However, gameplay access will remain available for a while after the store is disabled.
Full support for Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One will end when Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches. That is expected to happen around the release of Modern Warfare 4, which is currently set for October 23, 2026. Once that seasonal update goes live, Warzone will no longer be playable on last-generation Xbox and PlayStation hardware.
For longtime players, the good news is that progression and eligible purchased content will not be lost. Activision has confirmed that player progress and content bought with COD Points will transfer to supported platforms, as long as players use a linked Activision account. This includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
The move is not entirely unexpected. Activision had already confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not launch on PS4 or Xbox One, making it clear that the series is now focusing on newer hardware. Warzone following the same path makes sense from a technical standpoint, especially as the game continues to grow with larger updates, improved visuals, and more demanding features.
Still, this is a major moment for the Call of Duty community. Since its original launch in 2020, Warzone has maintained a huge audience across both old and new console generations. Its free-to-play model helped keep PS4 and Xbox One players connected to the latest Call of Duty experience long after the arrival of newer consoles.
With support ending, players still using PS4 or Xbox One will need to upgrade to a supported platform if they want to continue playing Warzone beyond the Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launch.
