Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Could Launch Near GTA 6, New Amiibo Listings Suggest
Nintendo has not yet confirmed a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2, but fresh amiibo listings have sparked new speculation among fans. If Nintendo follows one of its familiar release patterns, the long-awaited return of the Nintendo 64 classic could arrive in November 2026, potentially just days before GTA 6.
The theory began after fans spotted new Kirby Air Riders amiibo listings scheduled for November 11. While that date is not officially tied to any Zelda announcement, Nintendo has a history of launching amiibo figures close to major first-party game releases. Because of that pattern, some believe the new amiibo date could be pointing toward a larger Switch 2 release window.
Nintendo first confirmed during a June Direct that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is planned for 2026. Since then, the company has remained quiet, leaving fans to search for clues wherever they can find them. The discovery of new amiibo release dates has only added more fuel to the speculation.
Nintendo’s amiibo release history is what makes the theory interesting. In the past, the company has often paired new figures with major game launches or closely related first-party releases. A Mineru’s Construct amiibo inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is expected on September 17, the same day as Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. Earlier examples include Kirby-themed figures arriving around other Nintendo game launch windows.
That does not guarantee anything for Ocarina of Time, but it does give fans a reason to pay attention.
There is one detail that makes the November 11 theory less certain: the date falls on a Wednesday. Nintendo usually prefers other days of the week for major game launches and amiibo releases, so the timing is unusual. Still, a November release for a major Zelda remake would make sense from a business perspective.
The holiday season is one of the most important periods of the year for console sales, and a modern remake of Ocarina of Time could be one of Nintendo’s biggest system-sellers for Switch 2. November currently appears light on confirmed Nintendo first-party exclusives, making it a prime opportunity for the company to surprise fans with a major release.
The timing would also place the game close to GTA 6, which is expected to dominate the gaming conversation when it launches. Many publishers may try to avoid releasing major titles near Rockstar’s blockbuster, but Nintendo is in a unique position. GTA 6 is not expected to launch on Switch 2 on day one, meaning Nintendo’s audience may not overlap as directly as it does with PlayStation and Xbox players.
That gives The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake a stronger chance to stand out, even in one of the most competitive release windows in gaming history. For many longtime Nintendo fans, a fully modernized version of Ocarina of Time could be just as exciting as any new release in 2026.
There is also growing curiosity around Zelda’s 40th anniversary. While Nintendo has not announced special anniversary amiibo for the occasion, reports have suggested that anniversary-themed Switch 2 accessories may be in development, including a special Pro Controller and a console design featuring an unreleased celebration logo.
For now, nothing is official. Nintendo has only confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming in 2026. However, the combination of new amiibo listings, an open November release schedule, and Zelda’s anniversary year has convinced many fans that a major announcement could be on the way.
If the speculation proves accurate, Nintendo may be preparing to turn November 2026 into a huge month for Switch 2 owners, with Ocarina of Time returning just before GTA 6 takes over the wider gaming industry.
