DLSS 5 Mod Brings Multi-Frame Generation to Nvidia RTX 3000 GPUs, Boosting FPS in Major Games
The DLSS modding scene has been moving fast, and the latest breakthrough could be a huge win for gamers still using Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 series graphics cards. After the DLSS 5 DLL file surfaced through NBA 2K27, modders quickly began experimenting with the new technology in unsupported games. Early attempts were rough, with poor performance caused largely by the lack of proper driver support.
That changed when Nvidia released GeForce Game Ready Driver 616.64. With official hardware support now in place for DLSS 5, modders were able to push the technology much further across a wide range of games. Performance is still inconsistent depending on the title, but the progress has been significant enough to spark renewed interest in what older RTX GPUs can actually do.
In recent weeks, the DLSS modding community has managed to bring newer features to games and hardware configurations that were never officially supported. One of the biggest achievements so far is getting Multi-Frame Generation working on the RTX 3000 series, a GPU lineup that Nvidia previously suggested was not suitable for frame generation due to hardware limitations.
This development is especially exciting for PC gamers who are trying to extend the life of their existing systems. With graphics card prices remaining high, many players are looking for ways to improve performance without buying a new GPU. For RTX 3000 owners, this new DLSS Multi-Frame Generation mod could offer a major performance boost in supported single-player games.
Before this breakthrough, RTX 3000 users who wanted frame generation typically had to rely on workarounds such as DLSS-to-FSR frame-generation mods. Those solutions allowed players to use Nvidia DLSS upscaling alongside AMD’s FSR Frame Generation in certain games. Some titles also offered similar support natively, but the experience was not the same as having DLSS-based frame generation running directly.
The new mod changes that by allowing RTX 3000 GPUs to run Multi-Frame Generation without depending on FSR’s frame-gen technology. It works by placing a proxy for the RTX 3000 series’ SM86 architecture next to the game’s executable file. This proxy redirects frame-generation requests to a bundled DLSSG 310.1 runtime, allowing the feature to operate without modifying the game’s original files.
Players can configure the mod to request 2x, 3x, or 4x frame generation. However, the actual number of generated frames still depends on the game’s internal frame-generation setting. That means results may vary from one title to another, and not every game will deliver the same performance gains.
Early test results are impressive. According to the developer’s own testing, an RTX 3080 Ti running Black Myth: Wukong improved from around 50 FPS to roughly 150 FPS with 4x Frame Generation enabled. Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing saw an even more dramatic jump, rising from about 35 FPS to around 100 FPS using the same 4x Frame Generation setting.
These numbers show that Multi-Frame Generation can work on Nvidia RTX 3000 graphics cards, even if the feature was not officially designed for them. Still, users should keep expectations realistic. RTX 5000 series GPUs, based on Nvidia’s newer Blackwell architecture, are built with this technology in mind and are expected to deliver better efficiency, lower latency, and more consistent performance.
There are also some important warnings. The developer recommends using the mod only in single-player games. Multiplayer games with anti-cheat systems may detect modified runtime behavior and could flag the user, potentially leading to account restrictions or bans. Anyone experimenting with this type of mod should understand the risks before using it.
For now, this DLSS 5 Multi-Frame Generation mod is another sign that older RTX hardware may still have more potential than expected. While it is not an official Nvidia solution and may not work perfectly in every game, it gives RTX 3000 owners a new way to improve frame rates in demanding titles.
For gamers using an RTX 3060, RTX 3070, RTX 3080, or RTX 3090, this could be one of the most interesting performance-enhancing mods to watch. It may not turn an older GPU into a next-generation card, but it could make modern games feel much smoother without requiring an expensive upgrade.
