Microsoft Teases Next-Week Update for Xbox Project Helix

Microsoft is getting ready to pull back the curtain on Project Helix, the company’s next-generation Xbox console, with a new video series designed to keep game creators in the loop. The show, called Xbox Game Dev Update, is built for developers who want clear, practical information about upcoming Xbox hardware, platform changes, and the technology that will shape future games.

According to Bryce Baer, Senior Director of Xbox Ecosystem Marketing, the goal is to deliver updates straight from the teams building Xbox, along with the technical context developers need to understand what’s changing and why it matters. Instead of forcing studios to piece together announcements from scattered events and documents, Microsoft says this format will help developers “connect the dots” and see how new tools and platform decisions affect day-to-day development.

The first episode of Xbox Game Dev Update premieres May 7 on the Microsoft Game Dev YouTube channel. It will be hosted by Chris Charla (GM, Portfolio & Programs) and Jason Ronald (VP, Next Generation), and it will include a closer look at Project Helix. Microsoft also plans to recap key items revealed at GDC, including updates tied to PlayFab, Xbox PC Remote Tools, and other developer-focused initiatives.

Even though the series is aimed squarely at game development teams, it’s also an easy watch for Xbox fans who want credible updates on the next console without the usual marketing gloss. Project Helix has already sparked plenty of curiosity, especially as Microsoft has indicated that developers will receive dev kits early next year. Reports have also pointed to a late 2027 launch window for the new Xbox.

There’s also growing interest in what the hardware choices could mean for game performance and cross-platform development. One reported detail suggests the AMD RDNA-based GPU expected in the next Xbox may not be custom, a move that could potentially simplify game development and make it easier to bring titles to the console with fewer platform-specific hurdles.

For viewers planning to tune in live, the first episode airs May 7 at 9am PDT, 12pm EDT, and 6pm CEST.
