Microsoft Surface Pro 12 Leak Reveals Snapdragon X2 Upgrade, OLED Display, and Longer Battery Life
Microsoft is reportedly preparing to expand its Surface Pro lineup on June 16 with new ARM-based models powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon X2 chips. These versions are expected to arrive alongside x86 Surface Pro 12 configurations, giving buyers more choice between traditional PC processors and energy-efficient ARM hardware.
According to leaked promotional details, the upcoming Surface Pro 12 may feature a 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite processor. The exact chip has not yet been confirmed, but the listed configuration could point to one of several Snapdragon X2 Elite variants. Based on Microsoft’s previous Surface strategy, it is also possible that the entry-level consumer model will use a Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, while higher-end versions get the more powerful Elite option.
The Surface Pro 12 is expected to offer up to 32 GB of RAM, making it a strong option for multitasking, productivity, creative work, and AI-powered Windows features. Storage options will reportedly include 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB capacities using removable PCIe Gen 4 storage. That removable design could appeal to users who want more flexibility for repairs, upgrades, or long-term device maintenance.
One of the biggest highlights is the return of the 13-inch OLED display. The Surface Pro 11 already delivered a premium visual experience with rich contrast and vibrant colors, and the Surface Pro 12 appears set to continue that approach. An OLED screen should make the device especially attractive for media consumption, digital art, photo editing, and users who want a sharper, more vivid Windows tablet experience.
Battery life may also see a useful improvement. Microsoft is reportedly claiming up to 15.5 hours of battery life in official testing, which would represent around a 10% gain compared with the previous generation. Real-world battery performance will depend on brightness, workload, wireless use, and app compatibility, but improved endurance could make the Surface Pro 12 more practical for travel, work, and all-day productivity.
The ARM-based Surface Pro 12 is also expected to launch in a new Dune color option. This finish would join Microsoft’s familiar Black and Platinum choices, giving the device a warmer and more distinctive look. Matching Surface Pro Flex Keyboard accessories are also said to be on the way, likely designed to complement the new color and maintain the detachable 2-in-1 experience that defines the Surface Pro series.
Pricing has not yet been revealed, so it remains unclear how the Snapdragon X2 models will compare with the x86 versions. However, with a next-generation Qualcomm processor, OLED display, up to 32 GB of memory, removable fast storage, and improved battery life, the Microsoft Surface Pro 12 could become one of the most compelling Windows 2-in-1 devices of the year.
