MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 vs Apple’s A18 Pro: Unveiling the Performance Showdown on the OPPO Find X8 Pro

MediaTek has officially introduced its latest flagship System on Chip (SoC), the Dimensity 9400, which is now making waves in the tech world. This high-performance chipset is poised to be featured in upcoming devices from prominent brands such as OPPO and Vivo, with the OPPO Find X8 Pro already undergoing testing to demonstrate its capabilities.

Recent evaluations from tech reviewers have placed the Dimensity 9400 in direct competition with Apple’s A18 Pro found in the iPhone 16 Pro models. On Geekbench 6’s multi-core test, the Dimensity 9400 has secured impressive scores of over 9000, reflecting a significant 15% improvement over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300+. Despite these gains, it slightly trails behind the A18 Pro.

One area of concern is power consumption. The Dimensity 9400 draws over 18 watts, which is considerably higher than the 12 watts drawn by Apple’s A18 Pro. In terms of CPU performance, the Dimensity’s Cortex-X925 core, running at 3.60 GHz, falls short when stacked against Apple’s previous A17 Pro, and even more so against the formidable A18 Pro. The Dimensity 9400 posts a SPECint score of 8.73, whereas the A17 Pro and A18 Pro score significantly higher.

Switching gears to graphics performance, the Dimensity 9400 shines. It outperforms the A18 Pro in GPU benchmarks, scoring approximately 2700 on the 3DMark’s Steel Nomad Light test compared to the A18 Pro’s 2200 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s 1800. Additionally, the Dimensity 9400 impresses by being marginally more energy-efficient during this test, drawing 11.2 watts compared to the A18 Pro’s 11.5 watts.

The Dimensity 9400 is a compelling option for those looking for robust graphics performance and offers a glimpse of MediaTek’s capacity to challenge industry front-runners, despite some hurdles in power efficiency and CPU strength.
