Curve Games and developer Turtle Juice have officially revealed MECHBORN, an upcoming mech-themed roguelike deckbuilder that blends the bold style of classic ’90s mech anime with the intrigue of Greek mythology. The game is currently in development for Windows PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PlayStation 5, with a planned release window set for later in 2026. If you’re curious to see how it plays early, a demo is already available on itch.io.
Set in a world pushed to the brink, MECHBORN drops you into an Earth under nonstop Kaiju invasion. To fight back, the powerful organization TITANCORE creates the MECHBORN program—elite pilots capable of surviving the punishing mental and physical strain of “Mech-Synchronization.” Your mission is straightforward but far from easy: protect Earth and its colonies by building the right machine, the right deck, and the right strategy to survive escalating threats.
What makes MECHBORN stand out in the crowded roguelike deckbuilder space is its core combat twist: it doesn’t rely on a traditional hand of cards. Instead, you begin each battle with seven cards on a “Conveyor Belt.” Each time you play a card, a new one enters the belt—meaning your decisions constantly reshape what comes next. It’s a system designed to reward smart positioning, combo planning, and tactical sequencing rather than simply waiting for the perfect draw. Support cards can be placed to unlock new abilities, and when paired with pilot skills, they can trigger devastating combo chains that can turn a desperate fight into a Kaiju-smashing comeback.
The game’s tagline says it all: your mech is your deck. Rather than treating your deck as a separate set of abstract abilities, MECHBORN ties the idea directly to how you build and customize your machine. You’ll command three god-forged mechs, each offering a distinct combat style that influences how you approach every run. By mixing and matching parts, you add new cards to your deck and open up fresh tactical options. Prefer specialized builds? You can assemble custom loadouts to suit your playstyle. Want a more themed setup? Equipping matching sets grants a valuable HP boost, encouraging players to balance creativity with synergy. And because it’s a roguelike, you’ll unlock new cards over repeated runs, gradually expanding the possibilities for deadly synergies and Kaiju-crushing combinations.
Pilots play an equally important role. MECHBORN features 12 unlockable pilots, each with unique skills and their own backstories that span from Earth to the stars. Their powers are fueled by your card play, pushing you to think beyond simple damage and defense. The more you build around mech–pilot interactions, the more explosive your combat potential becomes—especially as you discover powerful synergies that can carry you through tougher encounters again and again.
Outside of battle, MECHBORN leans into exploration with a system called “Adaptive Exploration.” Instead of forcing you down fixed routes, the map lets you move and fight in any direction, creating a more flexible and reactive style of progression. You’ll travel across three continents that shift from run to run, ensuring the path you took last time won’t be the same this time. Along the way, you can buy, remove, or upgrade rare and exotic cards through vendors, push back the Kaiju threat by clearing territories zone-by-zone, and discover new factions that can influence events and rewards. If you’re the type who likes chasing secrets and power spikes, you can hunt down ancient research labs to unlock mech-enhancing Infusers—upgrades that can dramatically change how your build performs.
There’s a catch, though: fuel management matters. Explore too recklessly, and you risk getting stranded—an outcome that essentially turns you into easy prey in a world where Kaiju don’t show mercy.
MECHBORN’s battles aim to keep the pressure high. You’ll face everything from Kaiju hordes to elite enemies capable of crushing an unprepared build. Every fight carries a risk-versus-reward tension, with deck upgrades and new power on the line if you survive. And when you reach the top of a run, expect world-shattering bosses with distinct strategies designed to test whether your deck, mech configuration, and pilot synergy are truly ready.
With its conveyor-belt card system, deep mech customization, and flexible exploration across ever-changing continents, MECHBORN is shaping up to be one to watch for fans of roguelike deckbuilders, mech games, and anyone craving a fresh twist on strategic combat.
