Lucky $50 Z690 Motherboard Deal Comes with Four Pre-Installed NVMe SSDs Worth Over $1,700

A Reddit user says they may have used up all their luck for the year after scoring what looked like a simple bargain: a used MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi motherboard listed for just $50 on a local marketplace. The buyer, known as u/R550MAGIC2, was already planning to pick it up, but one detail stood out in the photos and during the meetup—multiple M.2 heatsinks were still attached to the board.

After a quick chat with the seller, it became clear the previous owner didn’t know much about computers. That detail turned out to be the key to this surprising PC hardware deal. The seller apparently didn’t realize that under those M.2 heatsinks were still-installed NVMe SSDs.

Once the motherboard was in hand and the heatsinks were removed, the buyer discovered four functional NVMe drives mounted on the board—hardware that, at typical market prices, would cost far more than the motherboard itself.

Here’s what was reportedly included with the $50 used Z690 motherboard purchase:
– Two 4TB WD Black SN850X NVMe SSDs (often priced around $600 each)
– One 2TB Corsair MP600 NVMe SSD (around $300)
– One 2TB Intel 670p NVMe SSD (typically around $270–$280)

Altogether, the combined storage adds up to 12TB of NVMe capacity, with an estimated value well north of $1,700 at common pricing. Even better, the Redditor reported that every drive was working properly with no issues detected.

The surprise didn’t end with the hardware. One of the 2TB drives was reportedly almost completely filled—about 1.9TB used—with GOG games, making the find even more unusual. (While the value of that game library isn’t quantified in the post, it’s still a wild bonus to stumble upon.)

Stories like this are rare but they do pop up from time to time—cases where someone buys used PC parts and ends up with extra high-end components the seller forgot about or didn’t recognize. With SSD prices still high enough to make PC upgrades feel painful, stumbling into a massive haul of premium NVMe storage for the price of a budget motherboard is the kind of deal most builders only hear about secondhand. This time, though, it happened to one very lucky buyer.
