Lower-capacity PS5 Digital lands stateside at $499—while Amazon keeps the 1TB at the same price

PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with 825GB storage quietly launches in the US and UK at the same price

Sony has expanded its rollout of the refreshed PlayStation 5 Digital Edition with reduced storage, bringing the 825GB model to more regions, including the US and the UK. Despite the smaller SSD, the price remains unchanged at $499 in the US and £429.99 in the UK.

If you prefer the larger drive, some retailers are still offering the 1TB PS5 Digital Edition for the same $499 or around £425 in the UK, but those units are no longer sold through the official PlayStation Direct store.

What’s currently on PlayStation Direct
– PS5 Digital Edition (825GB): $499 / £429.99
– PS5 Pro (2TB): $749 / £699.99
– PS5 with disc drive: $549 / £479.99
– Certified refurbished PS5 with disc drive (original “fat” model, 825GB): $399 / £389
– UK only: PlayStation 5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Limited Edition bundle for £469.99

What’s new with the 825GB Digital Edition
– All-matte exterior, including the center strip, for a cleaner, uniform look
– Lighter overall chassis compared to the 1TB version
– Internal tweaks observed in teardowns: a thinner steel plate over the motherboard, fewer VRMs, and more NAND modules

Bundles worth a look
– PlayStation 5 Ghost of Yotei Limited Edition: $599 / £519.99
– PlayStation 5 NBA 2k6 Bundle: $549 / £479.99
Both bundles include a disc drive and 1TB of storage.

Limited-time PlayStation Plus offer
Buy and activate a PS5 or PS5 Pro between October 10 and October 21 to claim 3 months of PlayStation Plus Premium at no additional cost. New purchases activated within this window should qualify.

Bottom line
The new PS5 Digital Edition brings a sleeker matte finish and a lighter build but steps down to 825GB without a price cut. If storage matters to you, consider grabbing the 1TB Digital Edition from participating retailers while supplies last. Otherwise, the Pro offers a bigger 2TB drive and enhanced performance, while the refurbished “fat” model is a strong value play if you want a disc drive at the lowest price.
