Lexar Thor Ultra SSDs Unleash Blazing M.2 Speeds With Up to 3PB Endurance

Lexar Thor Ultra PCIe Gen 5 SSD Debuts With Up to 11 GB/s Read Speeds

Lexar has unveiled the Thor Ultra, a new high-performance M.2 SSD lineup built for users who want extreme storage speed from a PCIe Gen 5.0 x4 drive. Designed in the M.2 2280 form factor, the Thor Ultra series targets gamers, creators, workstation users, and PC enthusiasts looking to upgrade to next-generation storage performance.

The new Lexar Thor Ultra SSD family will be available in four capacities: 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. While all models are positioned as premium drives, the higher-capacity versions deliver the most impressive numbers.

The 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models are rated for sequential read speeds of up to 11 GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 10 GB/s. That puts the Thor Ultra firmly in flagship territory among PCIe 5.0 SSDs, making it a compelling option for users who regularly transfer large files, edit high-resolution video, load massive game libraries, or work with demanding creative applications.

Random performance is also strong, which matters just as much as headline sequential speeds in everyday computing. The 1 TB model offers up to 1,500K random read IOPS and 1,900K random write IOPS. The 2 TB version raises random read performance to 2,200K IOPS while maintaining up to 1,900K random write IOPS. The 4 TB model is rated at up to 2,000K random read IOPS and 1,900K random write IOPS.

As expected, the entry-level 512 GB version is slower than the larger models. It still delivers strong performance, with sequential read speeds of up to 9.9 GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 5 GB/s. Its random performance is rated at up to 900K read IOPS and 1,200K write IOPS, which remains fast for most users, even if it trails the higher-capacity versions.

Endurance is another major highlight of the Lexar Thor Ultra lineup. The 512 GB model is rated for 350 TBW, while the 1 TB version increases that figure to 750 TBW. The 2 TB model offers 1,500 TBW, and the top-end 4 TB version reaches an impressive 3,000 TBW. All models also feature a 1.5 million-hour MTBF rating, suggesting that Lexar is positioning these drives not only as fast, but also as durable long-term storage solutions.

Lexar is backing the Thor Ultra series with a five-year limited warranty, giving buyers additional peace of mind. However, pricing and availability have not yet been announced. Given the premium performance level and current pressure on memory and storage component supply, the Thor Ultra SSDs are likely to arrive at higher price points than mainstream PCIe Gen 4 models.

For users who simply want a fast boot drive or gaming SSD, a PCIe Gen 4 drive may still offer better value. But for enthusiasts building a cutting-edge PC, content creators handling massive files, or anyone looking to take full advantage of PCIe 5.0 storage speeds, the Lexar Thor Ultra could become one of the more exciting SSD options to watch.
