Lexar Unveils AI-Ready Gen5 SSDs, DDR5 Memory, and Gaming Storage Upgrades at Computex
Lexar used Computex to spotlight a wide range of next-generation storage and memory products, with a major focus on artificial intelligence workloads, PCIe Gen5 performance, DDR5 memory, handheld gaming devices, and portable storage expansion.
As AI applications continue to demand faster data access and higher bandwidth, Lexar is positioning its latest SSD and memory technologies for users running local AI models, professional workloads, gaming systems, and high-performance PCs.
One of the key highlights was Lexar’s AI-grade Gen5 SSD solution. Built around a self-developed PCIe Gen5 controller, the drive is designed to deliver speeds of up to 11 GB/s. Lexar also pairs the drive with its Intelligent Distribution Technology, which is designed to reduce DRAM capacity requirements by up to 40%. That could help improve efficiency while still supporting demanding AI workloads.
Lexar also introduced an AI-grade Gen5 Storage Stick, offering the same 11 GB/s-class performance in a compact format. This product is aimed at users who need fast storage expansion for AI workstations or mobile AI setups. For more affordable systems and entry-level AI devices, Lexar is also preparing Gen4-based AI storage options, giving users additional capacity for running local models and handling large datasets.
Beyond AI-focused products, Lexar expanded its consumer SSD lineup with three new PCIe Gen5 drives. Leading the range is the Lexar NM1090 PRO, a high-end SSD that will be available in capacities of up to 8 TB. It is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 14,400 MB/s and write speeds of up to 13,400 MB/s.
The NM1090 PRO includes DRAM and SLC Dynamic Cache to help maintain strong performance during demanding transfers. Lexar is also using a 6nm SMI controller, which is designed to reduce heat output and power consumption. This should make the drive more efficient while helping manage thermal stress during heavy workloads such as gaming, content creation, 4K and 8K video editing, and large file transfers.
For mainstream PC users, Lexar showed the NM990 and NM970 Gen5 SSDs. The NM990 will be offered in capacities from 1 TB to 4 TB and delivers read speeds of up to 14 GB/s with SLC Dynamic Cache support. The NM970 starts at 512 GB and goes up to 4 TB, offering read speeds of up to 11 GB/s. These drives are aimed at users who want PCIe Gen5 performance without necessarily stepping up to the highest-end model.
Lexar also presented its ARES RGB DDR5 memory, built for high-performance gaming PCs and enthusiast systems. The memory is ROG Certified and optimized for use with ASUS ROG motherboards. It supports ultra-low-latency CL28 timings and features a thermal module to help cool carefully selected SK Hynix DDR5 memory chips.
With DDR5 memory continuing to become the standard for modern gaming and productivity systems, Lexar’s ARES RGB lineup is designed to appeal to users who want fast speeds, low latency, stable performance, and customizable RGB styling.
Handheld gaming was another major focus. Lexar showcased its PLAY X Gen4 SSD, designed for compact gaming systems, laptops, and desktop PCs. The drive supports both M.2 2230 and M.2 2280 form factors and offers capacities of up to 2 TB.
The M.2 2230 design makes the PLAY X Gen4 SSD a strong upgrade option for handheld gaming devices that require smaller SSDs. Lexar also includes an adapter bracket for M.2 2280 slots, improving compatibility with a wider range of PCs and laptops. The tool-free installation approach makes it easier for users to expand storage without a complicated upgrade process.
Lexar also highlighted its Play PRO storage products for handheld console gamers, including microSD cards and USB 3.2 Gen2 SD card readers. These accessories are designed to make it easier to expand storage capacity, install more games, and transfer large files quickly using a portable setup.
With its Computex showcase, Lexar made it clear that its product strategy is expanding beyond traditional PC storage. The company is now targeting AI systems, high-performance gaming rigs, handheld gaming devices, creator workstations, and compact portable storage needs.
From ultra-fast Gen5 SSDs and AI-ready storage sticks to low-latency DDR5 memory and handheld gaming upgrades, Lexar is building a broad lineup for users who need more speed, more capacity, and better efficiency across modern devices.
