Lenovo may be gearing up for a long-awaited return to the gaming smartphone scene. The company has been busy refreshing its high-end devices lately, including the newly revealed Legion Tablet Gen 5 powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. But while the Legion tablet line has continued to see regular upgrades, Lenovo’s Legion gaming phones have been noticeably absent for years.
The last dedicated Legion gaming handset was the Lenovo Legion Y70, launched back in August 2022. At the time, it arrived with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and was positioned to go head-to-head with other performance-focused gaming phones, offering flagship-level power aimed at mobile gamers. After that release, Lenovo stopped updating the Legion phone lineup, leaving fans wondering if the brand had quietly exited the gaming phone category altogether.
Now, a new sighting suggests the Legion gaming phone could be making a comeback. During a recent event in China, a Lenovo representative was reportedly seen holding an unreleased Legion-branded smartphone. Early images shared on Weibo hint at a refreshed design, with the rear panel looking similar in style to the Motorola Edge 70. The phone appears to adopt a rectangular camera module placed at the upper-left corner of the back.
That camera island seems to include three cameras along with an LED flash. Just below it, there’s a large and unmistakable Lenovo Legion logo, signaling that this isn’t a standard smartphone but something intended to carry the Legion gaming identity.
While the front of the device hasn’t been shown yet and Lenovo hasn’t confirmed specifications, expectations are already building. If this handset is meant to compete with upcoming flagship gaming phones such as the RedMagic 11 Pro, it could feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a fast high-refresh-rate display for smoother gameplay, a large battery designed for longer sessions, and an advanced cooling system to keep performance stable under heavy loads.
With the device already appearing publicly, it’s likely Lenovo is getting closer to an official announcement. For mobile gaming enthusiasts waiting for a new Legion phone, this could be the clearest sign yet that Lenovo is ready to re-enter the gaming smartphone race.
