Kingston has expanded its high-performance storage lineup with the Fury Renegade G5 now available in a massive 8 TB capacity, delivering blistering PCIe 5.0 speeds without sacrificing space. The new model is rated for up to 14,800 MB/s sequential reads and up to 14,000 MB/s sequential writes, putting it among the fastest high-capacity consumer SSDs you can buy.
Only a few drives have claimed read speeds in the 14,900 MB/s range, such as models built around Phison’s flagship E28 controller. SSDs touting 14,800 MB/s are also rare, especially at 8 TB. Some enthusiast-class options reach similar read figures at this capacity but typically top out around 13,400 MB/s for sequential writes. Kingston’s 8 TB Renegade G5 aims to push past that ceiling, offering high-end throughput for large game libraries, 4K/8K video, and demanding content creation workloads.
Built on a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, the Renegade G5 8 TB pairs Silicon Motion’s SM2508G controller with 218-layer BiCS8 3D TLC NAND to hit its performance targets. Silicon Motion has positioned the SM2508G as a power-efficient alternative to the Phison E28, while counterclaims suggest the two are competitive in real-world efficiency. Either way, both controller platforms are known for strong thermals and top-tier sequential performance.
The new 8 TB option joins existing 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB capacities. Kingston previously signaled the larger model would arrive in November; pricing and retail availability are still to be announced. The entire Renegade G5 family is backed by a 5-year warranty.
“Whether for work or play, users need more power and space. We’re happy this 8 TB addition to Kingston FURY Renegade G5 SSD can provide both,” said Keith Schimmenti, SSD business manager at Kingston.
