Japan’s New 32GB RAM Laptop Packs an 8-Core CPU and Claims 30-Hour Battery Life

NEC Lavie X14 Debuts in Japan With 32GB RAM, Intel Panther Lake Power, and Up to 31 Hours of Battery Life

NEC’s Lavie brand has introduced a new premium lightweight laptop in Japan, and it is clearly built for users who want strong everyday performance without giving up portability. The new Lavie X14 combines a 14-inch display, 32GB of memory, Intel’s latest Core Ultra processor, and a huge battery designed to keep the machine running for an impressively long time.

The Lavie X14 is part of NEC’s long-running PC lineup, produced under the Lavie brand in partnership with Lenovo. While Lavie devices are mainly sold in Japan, they often attract attention from laptop enthusiasts because of their focus on lightweight design, practical features, and business-friendly hardware.

This latest model continues that approach. The Lavie X14 weighs around 1 kg and measures roughly 0.74 inches thick, making it easy to carry for commuting, travel, work, or study. Despite its slim and light build, NEC has packed the laptop with hardware that should be more than capable for productivity and daily computing.

At the heart of the Lavie X14 is the Intel Core Ultra 7 355, a new Panther Lake processor with eight cores. The chip includes four performance cores and four efficiency-focused cores, giving the laptop a solid balance between speed and power efficiency. It is paired with 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM, with no lower-memory versions listed at the time of announcement.

For most users, this configuration should be strong enough for office work, multitasking, web browsing, video calls, document editing, media consumption, and light creative tasks. It should also handle casual photo editing and basic video editing without much trouble.

Graphics performance comes from Intel’s integrated Xe3 graphics with four GPU cores. While this is not meant to replace a dedicated gaming GPU, it should be suitable for light gaming, media playback, and everyday visual workloads. Users can expect older or less demanding games to run at modest settings, but the Lavie X14 is clearly designed more for productivity and mobility than serious gaming.

The laptop features a 14-inch IPS touchscreen with a WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200. The taller 16:10 aspect ratio gives users more vertical screen space compared with traditional 16:9 panels, which is useful when working with documents, spreadsheets, websites, and creative apps.

One of the biggest highlights of the Lavie X14 is its large 99.9Wh battery. NEC claims the laptop can deliver around 30 hours of video playback and up to 51 hours of idle time. Real-world battery life will depend on brightness, workload, wireless use, and background apps, but the capacity alone makes this one of the more interesting ultraportable laptops for users who prioritize long-lasting mobility.

Connectivity is also generous for a thin 14-inch laptop. The Lavie X14 includes two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, HDMI, microSD card support, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and a 3.5mm audio jack. That selection should make it easy to connect external monitors, storage devices, accessories, wired networks, and modern wireless routers without relying heavily on adapters.

Other notable features include a 512GB SSD, a 1080p infrared camera with Windows Hello support, and a built-in NPU rated at 49 TOPS for AI-related workloads. The inclusion of an NPU helps position the Lavie X14 for newer Windows features and AI-assisted applications that can take advantage of dedicated neural processing hardware.

The NEC Lavie X14 is now available in Japan with a price of around 410,000 yen, which is approximately $2,600. Since Lavie-branded PCs are generally sold only in Japan, an official international launch appears unlikely. However, buyers outside Japan who are interested in the device may still be able to import it through forwarding services.

With its lightweight body, 32GB of RAM, Panther Lake processor, Wi-Fi 7, strong port selection, and massive battery, the Lavie X14 looks like a premium productivity laptop aimed at professionals, students, and frequent travelers who want endurance and portability in one compact machine.
