Is the New $1,050 Xbox ROG Ally X Truly Outshone by an Older Handheld?

In testing Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p with Steam Deck settings, the Intel chip delivered an impressive 54 FPS at 25W. This performance outshined the Z2 Extreme, which managed 46 FPS, and the Z1 Extreme at 41 FPS. When switching to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Z2 Extreme slightly led at a 17W draw but fell a point behind the 258V at 25W.

Testing with Forza Horizon 5 at medium settings and 1080p resolution, the 258V scored 83 FPS at 25W, surpassing the Ryzen Z1 and Z2 Extremes, which hit 76 and 80 FPS, respectively. At a reduced power draw of 17W, the 258V scored 73 FPS, just short of the Z1 Extreme’s 74 FPS.

In Black Myth: Wukong, with upscaling and no frame generation, the 258V achieved 50 FPS at 1080p with low settings and 60% resolution scaling, under a 25W draw. This was ahead of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme’s 44 FPS and just above the Z2 Extreme’s 49 FPS. However, at a 17W setting, the Z2 Extreme overtook by 1 FPS. ETA PRIME’s video showed a graph mishap, listing both scores as 43 FPS, despite stating a slight edge for the Z2 Extreme.
