iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max Hit Their Longest Delivery Delays Since the iPhone 11 Era

iPhone 17 demand is surging, and early indicators suggest Apple may have another blockbuster cycle on its hands. Preorder lead times for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are already stretching well beyond last year’s pace, signaling that shoppers are flocking to the high-end models.

According to research from Bank of America’s Wamsi Mohan, shipping estimates for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are longer than what was seen at the same stage for the iPhone 16 series. In fact, current delays are the most extended since the iPhone 11 launch, a clear sign of robust interest in Apple’s newest flagships.

This aligns with expectations from long-time industry watcher Ming-Chi Kuo, who estimates Apple is planning to produce roughly 25 percent more units of the iPhone 17 Pro models compared to the top-tier iPhone 16 variants last year. Across the entire lineup, aggregate projections point to Apple targeting around 100 million iPhone 17 units in 2025 to meet demand.

Several upgrades appear to be driving this momentum. Apple’s decision to boost base storage on the entry iPhone 17 to 256GB makes the starting model more compelling. The introduction of an LTPO OLED display on the base iPhone 17 also narrows the gap with premium tiers by bringing smoother visuals and better power efficiency. Add in a sleek new design for the iPhone 17 Air, and the lineup feels fresh across the board.

The iPhone 17 Air, in particular, looks set to play a bigger role this cycle. Kuo’s latest checks suggest Apple is ramping production of the Air model by roughly 200 percent versus the iPhone 16 Plus during the current quarter. That aggressive build plan underscores Apple’s confidence in demand for the new form factor.

Put together, longer preorder lead times, elevated production targets, and meaningful spec upgrades indicate a strong launch trajectory. For shoppers, that may mean acting fast to secure preferred models and configurations. For Apple, it suggests the iPhone 17 family is resonating widely—from the redesigned Air to the powerhouse Pro and Pro Max—setting the stage for one of the company’s most successful upgrade cycles in years.
