iPHone 16e helps Apple to take the top spot in global smartphone sales

iPhone 16e’s Popularity Propels Apple to the Top of the Global Smartphone Market in First Quarter

Apple has captured the limelight as the frontrunner in global smartphone sales for the first quarter of 2025. Recent insights from Counterpoint Research highlight that Apple clinched the top spot, marking a significant milestone with a 19% share of the global market. This achievement is largely attributed to the buzz and success surrounding Apple’s latest offering, the iPhone 16e.

The launch of the iPhone 16e has propelled Apple’s dominance in smartphone shipments worldwide, even amidst fluctuating economic landscapes. Unveiled last month, the iPhone 16e continues to drive strong demand, particularly in emerging markets. Packed with all the coveted software features of the higher-end models, the iPhone 16e is attractively priced at $599, providing consumers access to the advanced Apple Intelligence features and effectively replacing the previous SE lineup.

Hot on Apple’s heels is Samsung, holding the second position with an 18% market share. This signifies a dip from its 21% share in Q1 of 2023. The South Korean giant faced a slow start this year, likely due to the delayed release of the Galaxy S25 lineup but managed to recover some ground by March.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi secured third place, claiming a 14% share, showing an improvement from the previous year’s 13%. With strong popularity in China, Xiaomi has also been expanding its reach into other emerging markets. Following closely, Vivo and Oppo occupy the fourth and fifth slots, respectively, thriving on strong domestic demand and similar market strategies as Xiaomi.

Although the global smartphone market experienced a modest 3% growth in the first quarter of this year, projections from Counterpoint Research caution a potential downturn in the coming months. The recent imposition of significant tariffs by the United States on imports from China, India, Vietnam, and other regions could lead to increased smartphone prices domestically. This anticipated rise in costs may curb consumer demand, potentially impacting global sales figures. The industry watches closely as it navigates potential shifts and challenges posed by these tariff changes.
