Casio has officially stepped into the world of mechanical watchmaking in the US with its new releases in the Edifice line. Recently appearing on the brand’s website, the EFK-100D-2A and EFK-100D-7A watches are now available for purchase.
These models mark Casio’s shift from its traditional quartz chronographs and smart features, embracing a more classic design with a three-hand automatic movement and a date window positioned at 6 o’clock. The watches offer a see-through case back, showcasing the intricate mechanics and rotor at work.
Both watches share a 43.5mm stainless steel case but stand out with their distinct dials. The EFK100D-2A has a striking blue dial with a texture reminiscent of forged carbon, while the EFK100D-7A boasts a lighter silver-white dial with similar detailing. Casio crafted these textured surfaces using electroforming, providing a layered, organic appearance. The indices and hands are mirror-polished, featuring luminous tips for visibility in low light.
The watches offer practical features at an appealing price point:
– Automatic movement with manual winding
– Approximately 40-hour power reserve
– Accuracy between -35 to +45 seconds per day
– Sapphire crystal glass
– 100 meters water resistance
– 12.5 mm case thickness
– Solid stainless steel band with a 3-fold clasp
– Weight of 148 grams
Additional details include a hacking seconds hand, 24 jewels, and 21,600 vibrations per hour. The bands have a refined design with alternating brushed and polished links, adding contrast and elegance. Both models feature magnetic resistance and enhanced scratch protection due to their sapphire crystal.
Given that these are Casio’s inaugural mechanical models under the Edifice brand, availability might be limited. The automatic watches’ competitive pricing from a renowned Japanese brand is particularly appealing. Both models are ready to ship from Casio’s website. A third model with a black dial, the EFK-100CD-1A, is also listed, though currently marked as “Notify Me,” suggesting it will become available soon.
