Intel Quietly Launches Core 7 230H and Core 5 205H Raptor Lake Refresh CPUs Without Integrated Graphics
Intel has quietly expanded its mobile processor lineup with two new Raptor Lake Refresh chips: the Core 7 230H and Core 5 205H. These new CPUs use Intel’s newer “Core 200” naming style, but they are not part of the latest Core Ultra family. Instead, they belong to the familiar Raptor Lake and Raptor Lake Refresh generation, aimed at performance-focused laptops and compact systems.
The most interesting detail is that both processors appear to ship without active integrated graphics. In other words, these chips are designed for systems that rely on a dedicated GPU rather than Intel’s built-in graphics engine. That makes them a more specific option for laptops, mini PCs, and motherboards that already include or require discrete graphics.
The arrival of these processors confirms earlier signs that Intel had more refreshed Raptor Lake chips in the pipeline. Some hardware listings had already hinted at unannounced models, and now the Core 7 230H and Core 5 205H have officially appeared in Intel’s processor lineup.
The Core 7 230H is the stronger of the two new chips. It features 10 cores in a 6 performance-core plus 4 efficient-core layout, delivering a total of 16 threads. The processor can boost up to 5.2 GHz and includes 24 MB of L3 cache. Its power range is listed between 45W and 115W, placing it in the same general category as other H-series laptop processors built for higher performance.
On paper, the Core 7 230H looks very close to the Core 7 240H. It carries the same maximum boost clock, cache size, and power range. However, one notable difference appears in memory support. The Core 7 230H is listed with DDR5 memory speeds of up to 5200 MT/s, while the Core 7 240H supports up to 6400 MT/s. It is unclear whether this is an intentional downgrade or simply a listing error, but it is one of the few specification differences between the two models.
Intel has also introduced the Core 5 205H, a more affordable 8-core option. This processor uses a 4 performance-core plus 4 efficient-core configuration, offering 12 threads in total. It can boost up to 4.8 GHz and includes 12 MB of L3 cache. Like the Core 7 230H, it has a 45W to 115W power range, though its lower core count and smaller cache clearly position it below the Core 7 model.
The biggest shared feature between both CPUs is the lack of integrated graphics. For typical laptops, integrated graphics can be useful for everyday display output, power-saving modes, and basic workloads. However, in gaming laptops or workstation-style systems with dedicated GPUs, the iGPU often plays a smaller role. By disabling integrated graphics, Intel may be targeting budget-focused designs where a separate graphics chip is already part of the system.
This also helps explain why these processors may appear in specialized laptops, mini PCs, or prebuilt systems rather than mainstream thin-and-light notebooks. Devices using the Core 7 230H or Core 5 205H will likely need an external or dedicated graphics solution to handle display output and graphics acceleration.
The naming is also worth noting. Intel’s use of “Core 7” and “Core 5” instead of the older Core i7 and Core i5 branding shows that the company is continuing to apply its updated naming scheme even to refreshed older architectures. Since these chips do not carry the “Ultra” label, they are not based on Intel’s newer architecture family and do not include the features normally associated with Core Ultra processors.
Overall, the Intel Core 7 230H and Core 5 205H look like practical additions to the Raptor Lake Refresh mobile CPU family. They are not flashy launches, but they could become useful options for cost-conscious systems that pair Intel CPU performance with dedicated graphics hardware.
For buyers, the key takeaway is simple: these are H-series performance processors, but they are not ideal for systems that need integrated graphics.
