Instagram’s iPad Debut Arrives—15 Years in the Making

Instagram is finally bringing a native experience to the iPad, complete with a refreshed design that makes the most of the bigger display. The rollout is happening globally on Apple’s App Store, and it follows another major release from the same company: the dedicated iPad version of WhatsApp launched a few months ago.

A new Following tab helps you cut through the noise and focus on what matters. It splits the accounts you follow into three smart views:
– All: See posts and Reels from every account you follow.
– Friends: Filter your feed to show content from accounts that follow you back.
– Latest: Browse chronologically so the most recent posts are always on top.

The interface has been reworked to be more comfortable on larger screens. Dual-pane layouts make it easier to keep up with messages and notifications without bouncing between views. When you’re watching Reels, comments appear alongside the video instead of shrinking it, so you can enjoy a full-size viewing experience while staying part of the conversation.

For creators, casual scrollers, and everyone in between, the iPad app aims to make catching up faster and more intentional. With smarter feed controls, side-by-side panels, and a video-first layout, this redesign delivers the big-screen experience users have been waiting for.
