Insta360 X6 leak points to bigger sensors, 8K50 video, longer battery life, and a compact redesign
Insta360’s next-generation 360-degree action camera is shaping up to be a major upgrade. New leaked details suggest the upcoming Insta360 X6 will bring a redesigned body, improved image sensors, faster video recording, stronger low-light performance, and better battery life, making it one of the most exciting 360 cameras to watch.
According to the latest information, the Insta360 X6 may feature a more compact design while still packing more powerful hardware than the Insta360 X5. The biggest headline upgrade is expected to be 8K video recording at up to 50 frames per second in 360-degree mode, a noticeable step up from the 8K30 limit on the previous model. For creators who shoot action sports, travel videos, vlogs, virtual tours, or immersive social media content, that higher frame rate could make 8K footage look smoother and more flexible in editing.
A major camera sensor upgrade may also be on the way. The Insta360 X5 already improved over the X4 by moving from dual 1/1.8-inch sensors to dual 1/1.28-inch sensors. With the Insta360 X6, the company is reportedly going even bigger with two 1/1.1-inch sensors, one behind each lens.
Larger sensors typically mean better light capture, improved dynamic range, cleaner low-light footage, and more detailed images. That could make the X6 especially appealing for night shooting, indoor filming, and high-contrast outdoor scenes. While the exact sensor model has not been confirmed, the leak suggests each sensor may support up to 42-megapixel photo capture. In full 360-degree photo mode, the camera is expected to offer up to 120-megapixel images.
Video performance could be another key selling point. The Insta360 X6 is said to support 8K50 recording in 360 mode, while 8K30 recording may remain available in PureVideo 360 mode for enhanced image processing. Single-lens mode is also expected to improve significantly, with support for up to 5K60 or 4K120 video.
That 4K120 option would be especially useful for slow-motion footage in action camera mode. By comparison, the Insta360 X5 topped out at 4K60 in single-lens mode, so this would be a meaningful upgrade for users who want sharper and smoother slow-motion clips without switching to a separate action camera.
The leaked specs also point to 11K time-lapse recording, 10-bit 360-degree video, Dolby Vision support, I-Log, and Adaptive Tone 2.0. These features suggest Insta360 is aiming the X6 at both casual creators and more advanced users who want greater control over color grading, exposure, and final video quality.
Battery life is another area where the Insta360 X6 could improve. Despite reportedly having a smaller body measuring around 10 x 5 x 4 cm and a slightly lighter weight of about 195 grams, the camera may include a larger 2,600 mAh battery. That would be an increase over the 2,400 mAh battery used in the Insta360 X5.
The new battery is expected to provide up to 233 minutes of recording time, compared with up to 208 minutes on the previous model in its endurance recording mode. For long travel days, outdoor shoots, hikes, cycling sessions, or event coverage, the extra runtime could make a real difference.
The Insta360 X6 is also expected to include a bright OLED touchscreen, reportedly reaching up to 1,200 nits. That should help with visibility outdoors, especially when filming in direct sunlight. However, the exact screen size has not yet been revealed.
Some important details remain unknown, including the lens aperture, charging speed, full waterproofing specifications, accessory compatibility, and official launch date. Pricing is also not confirmed, though early information suggests the Insta360 X6 could be more expensive than its predecessor, with possible pricing around 700 euros for the camera or 800 euros for a bundle package.
