Insta360 X6 Launches With 8K 360 Video, Bigger Sensors, Dolby Vision, and a Smaller Design
Insta360 has introduced the X6, its newest 360-degree action camera built for creators who want sharper footage, easier editing, and stronger low-light performance in a more compact body. The new model arrives as a major upgrade over the previous X5, bringing larger sensors, faster 8K recording, improved battery life, onboard storage, and native Dolby Vision capture directly inside the camera.
One of the biggest changes is the redesigned body. The Insta360 X6 is smaller and more portable than the X5, measuring 50 x 100 x 40 mm and weighing around 196 grams. That makes it easy to carry for travel, sports, vlogging, outdoor adventures, and immersive content creation. Despite the smaller frame, Insta360 has managed to pack in more advanced camera hardware and a larger battery.
The camera uses custom dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, giving it 33% more sensor area than the X5. According to Insta360, this allows the X6 to capture around four times more light per frame, which should help improve image quality in challenging lighting conditions such as sunsets, indoor scenes, night walks, and fast-moving action shots.
Video performance also gets a noticeable boost. The Insta360 X6 can record 360-degree video at up to 8K at 50 frames per second, improving on the X5’s 8K at 30 frames per second capability. This higher frame rate should make footage look smoother while preserving the flexibility of 360-degree reframing in post-production.
Inside, the X6 is powered by a triple AI chip system. This includes an 8-core 3.3 GHz 4 nm flagship processor paired with two dedicated imaging chips. The upgraded processing hardware is designed to improve image handling, video quality, stabilization, and AI-based editing features.
Another standout feature is native in-camera Dolby Vision support. This gives creators the ability to capture more dynamic and vibrant footage directly from the camera, without relying entirely on external editing workflows. The X6 also includes 47 GB of built-in storage, giving users extra space for recording when they do not have a memory card available or need a quick backup option.
Battery life has been improved as well. The Insta360 X6 comes with a 2,600 mAh battery, which the company rates for up to 140 minutes of recording at 8K 30 fps in 360-degree mode. That is claimed to be 51% longer than the X5, making the camera better suited for long rides, hikes, events, and extended shooting sessions.
For controls and previewing footage, the X6 features a 2.32-inch OLED display with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. This should make the screen easier to view outdoors, especially in bright sunlight.
Insta360 has also added a new auto-editing feature called AI Director. This tool analyzes captured footage, creates a highlight edit directly from the camera, and sends the finished result to the Insta360 app. For users who want polished clips without spending too much time editing, this could be one of the camera’s most useful upgrades.
The X6 also includes many of Insta360’s familiar action-camera features. These include FlowState stabilization for smooth video, a four-microphone 360-degree wind-resistant audio system, gesture control, NFC touch-to-connect pairing, Wi-Fi 6.0, 10-bit I-Log recording, and support for more than 100 accessories.
Durability has also been improved with support for interchangeable lenses 2.0. Insta360 says the new lenses are five times more scratch-resistant and 60% cheaper to replace than the previous generation. The camera also offers water resistance up to 20 meters, making it suitable for wet environments, water sports, and underwater-style creative shots.
The Insta360 X6 is available in two versions. The Standard version is priced at $669.99, £619, or €699, while the Essential version costs $799.99, £709, or €799. With its upgraded sensors, smoother 8K recording, longer battery life, Dolby Vision support, and compact redesign, the Insta360 X6 is positioned as a powerful 360-degree action camera for creators who want high-resolution footage with minimal effort.
