Karbonn ZenZ Pro Leak Hints at a Possible Smartphone Comeback in India
Karbonn, once a familiar name in India’s early Android smartphone boom, may be getting ready to re-enter the smartphone market after years of silence. A newly spotted device called the Karbonn ZenZ Pro has surfaced on Geekbench, suggesting that the brand could be preparing its first Android phone in a long time.
The listing identifies the handset as Karbonn_UTL_ZenZ_Pro and shows it running Android 16 with 6GB of RAM. If accurate, this could mark a surprising return for Karbonn, which has largely focused on feature phones in recent years after its last known smartphone releases around 2020.
What makes the listing even more interesting is the chipset. The device appears to use the MediaTek Helio G70, a 12nm processor that was more commonly seen in budget smartphones several years ago. The Helio G70 includes two Cortex-A75 performance cores clocked at up to 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 1.7GHz. Graphics are handled by the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.
In Geekbench 7, the alleged Karbonn ZenZ Pro scored 421 points in the single-core test and 1,511 points in the multi-core test. These numbers place it firmly in the entry-level to lower-budget category, which could make sense if Karbonn is targeting affordable smartphone buyers in India.
However, the leak should be treated with caution. Benchmark listings can sometimes be manipulated, especially when older chipsets are involved. It is possible for someone to modify device information on an existing phone and make it appear as a new model. Because of that, this Geekbench appearance does not confirm that the Karbonn ZenZ Pro will actually launch.
Still, there are a few details that make the listing worth watching. The ZenZ Pro name has not been seen before, the device appears with Android 16, and the use of Karbonn’s UTL branding adds some credibility to the possibility of a real product in development.
If Karbonn does return, the timing could be strategic. India’s budget smartphone market is seeing fresh interest from local consumer electronics brands. Companies known for affordable wearables and audio products are beginning to explore smartphones, especially in the sub-₹15,000 segment. At the same time, larger brands such as Redmi and Realme have gradually shifted more attention toward higher-priced devices, leaving room for new and returning players in the ultra-affordable category.
A Karbonn comeback could appeal to buyers looking for a basic Android smartphone at an accessible price. While the rumored Helio G70 processor would not compete with modern mid-range chipsets, it may still be suitable for everyday tasks such as calling, messaging, social media, video streaming, and light app usage.
For now, the Karbonn ZenZ Pro remains an unconfirmed device. But if the listing is genuine, it could signal the return of one of India’s original budget smartphone brands at a time when the entry-level Android market may be ready for fresh competition.
