IKEA has launched its new Alpstuga Air quality sensor, smart in the UK, bringing a compact and affordable indoor air monitor to more homes. After appearing in several European countries and the US, the Alpstuga is now listed on IKEA’s UK online store with a wallet-friendly price that’s likely to appeal to anyone building out a smarter, healthier home setup.
Designed to help you keep an eye on the air in a specific room, the Alpstuga displays key readings on a pill-shaped screen. You can check carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, PM2.5 particle levels, and the current temperature at a glance. When you’re not actively checking the readings, the display can switch to a simple clock view, so it doesn’t feel like a single-purpose gadget taking up space.
A major selling point is Matter support. With Matter compatibility, the Alpstuga can integrate with a wide range of smart home platforms and apps, including Apple Home, Google Home, and Homey. That flexibility makes it easier to fit into existing smart home setups without locking you into one ecosystem. It also opens up useful automation options—for instance, you could set routines that respond to rising CO2 levels by triggering connected devices like a smart air purifier or ventilation setup, helping you maintain comfortable air quality throughout the day.
In terms of design, IKEA keeps things minimal. The sensor comes in a white finish and measures 40 x 40 x 90 mm (about 1.6 x 1.6 x 3.5 inches), making it small enough for a shelf, bedside table, or desk without drawing much attention.
The IKEA Alpstuga Air quality sensor, smart is priced at £25 in the UK. It’s available through IKEA’s online store, and the retailer’s stock checker indicates limited in-store availability at select locations, including Gateshead, Milton Keynes, Reading, and Southampton.
