iFi iDSD GR 2 portable DAC launches with powerful headphone output and hi-res Bluetooth audio
iFi has introduced the iDSD GR 2, a compact portable DAC designed for listeners who want high-resolution audio performance at home, at a desk, or on the move. Built for wired and wireless listening, the new digital-to-analog converter combines premium decoding, strong headphone amplification, and modern Bluetooth codec support in a travel-friendly body.
At the heart of the iFi iDSD GR 2 is a Burr-Brown PCM1795 chipset, allowing the device to handle lossless PCM audio up to 768kHz and DSD512 playback. That makes it suitable for demanding music libraries, studio-quality tracks, and audiophile-grade sources. For users with power-hungry headphones, the DAC can deliver up to 1,513 mW RMS output power, with peak output reaching 2,173 mW at 32 ohms.
The iDSD GR 2 supports both 3.5 mm unbalanced and 4.4 mm balanced headphone connections, giving users flexibility depending on their headphones or in-ear monitors. The balanced output is especially useful for listeners who want improved separation, cleaner signal delivery, and stronger output from compatible gear.
Wireless audio is also a major focus. The portable DAC includes support for Hi-Res Audio-compatible Bluetooth codecs such as aptX Lossless, LDAC, and LHDC. It also works with SBC, AAC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive, making it compatible with a wide range of smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wireless headphones.
To improve playback from compressed music sources, iFi has included JVCKenwood K2HD processing. According to iFi, this technology is designed to restore depth, tone, and musicality that can be lost when audio is compressed, helping streaming tracks and lossy files sound fuller and more natural.
For users who want to connect external digital sources, the iDSD GR 2 also accepts S/PDIF optical and coaxial inputs. This makes it useful beyond mobile listening, as it can also fit into a desktop audio setup or connect to compatible digital audio equipment.
The device is operated through a color OLED touchscreen, giving users direct access to key controls and playback settings. Additional fine-tuning options are available through the iFi Nexus app for Android smartphones, which also enables over-the-air updates to keep the DAC current with future improvements.
Power comes from a 4,900 mAh lithium-polymer battery. iFi says the iDSD GR 2 can run for up to 7 hours on a charge, while a full recharge takes around 3.5 hours. Its compact frame measures 141 x 75 x 19 mm and weighs 268 g, making it portable enough to carry in a bag while still offering enough power for serious headphone listening.
The iFi iDSD GR 2 is available for pre-order at $529, with shipping scheduled to begin on July 6, 2026.
